Wow that's disgraceful. Posted a whole thread and it dissapeared
Well I'll start again. Basically it all starts like this. I'm attending a walk-on on May 30-31st. I'm 17 and I would consider myself mature and pretty responsible. I will be camping overnight in a tent by myself (dedication ) and hopefully I'll have a good weekend.
Well this is the paranoia bit. I won't have my car till later this year so I posted on the UKScenario forums asking if anyone could kindly give me a lift there and back. I said I would gladly chip in some petrol money and bring whoever takes me some beer or paint, basically whatever they fancied for the weekend. The owner of the site that the walk-on is based at replied saying he knew a few people from around my area that would be able to give me a lift. All went well he got in touch and gave me a number of a guy from his team not far from me. I rang the guy and he kindly agreed to give me a lift there and back and meet me not far from my house.
I'm a trusting person and to me the paintball community is a tight knit, great community that enjoy the same amazing sport as me. Everyone I have met so far has been kind and helpful including yourselves. There has obviously been a few chavs knocking around on punter days that have made complete dxck heads of themselves but I wouldn't even relate them to the paintball company. Well this is where the dilemma starts.
My parents think it's "cringeworthy" that I'm going to a walk-on with a stranger. I've had terrible "dad jokes" which are generally the worst kind, of how I should leave a will etc. [insert bad jokes here] My mam is being the stereotypical character asking for contact numbers and making sure I get ready the night before. Both aren't too keen on the idea and at first completely refused to me going. It took me a while to persuade them. Gah. I myself think it's nice to see some trust and kindness in this world for a change. I won't think twice before stepping in the car with this guy and I'm very grateful for his kindness.
It makes me wonder if the media causes uncessary paranoia. Excuse my bluntness but you hear stories like the "McCan's" and everyone seems to think the world if full of paedophiles and rapists. People go missing and people get kidnapped but they always have done just the media haven't been there to publicize it and hype it up. I just wondered what other peoples opinions are on this as my parents seem so edgey about it. Would you let someone my age do it if they were your kid etc? Are people too paranoid? Would love to see a discussion
