I think mario is right, to be honest not many 'professional' sports would employ untested safety equiptment would they.

I still think however had they have just lashed down the inflatable part with strong rope (attach them to 4 wheel drives or something) and just made a quick frame out of scaffold (would have took about 2 hours to set up and very easily accessible with a simple phone call) then it would have all turned out well. You would think for the price you play there would have been some kind of plan should (like it did) the worst happen.:D

Edit:- Reading the above post then maybe the idea wouldnt have worked, i didnt think it was that bad :O

nothing would have worked. think about the pit boxes, they would have been blown away, same to the tower. have a look at these pictures and then you will get an idea how worse it got in the afternoon:

next thing to do is re-thinking choice of locations or time of the year - when to go where...

The new fields were not complete, to my understanding there were more support features including a roof structure that would have made it more stable, not that it would of made a difference, all the fields took damage and the pit tents got blow down.

Porn whip round for the Firm guys.

Well done to Markie C and the boys for their hard work.
See Jonathan A on these forums, he makes Morris Day (Viz perv) look like a porn virgin!!!

Sorry to hear that Markie after such a damned good start, they gotta do something to sort this out for their most vital asset....the players!

I found it rather insulting when i heard a Millennium Official saying 'We took our time and made the right decisions :

Not getting your fields back from the UAE

Using a new field / netting style in a live tournament

Not putting the new fields up fully

Having netting held up with velcro

Having the field collapse with no power to the blowers, scaffold poles dont fall over without power, nor do sup-air bunkers.............

Borrowing scaffold from a local field

After weather stopped play keeping players on site for hours without issuing a decisions.

Can i hazard that there will be no refunds issued, not even a token reduced entry.

I do understand that the weather could not be helped in any way but surely there should be a set contingency plan.

Finally some one has said what the problems were, i didnt want to say anything cause it was just rumours,

one more thing i would like to add from what mark fenton said about safety to players is what about the field and pits????

The fields hadnt been rolled and had hills all over the place and there wasnt even any turf in the pits we had to pot up on the beach,

I might be biased because i have played HB and all their fields were flat and the players area turfed, also why wasnt the div1 field blown up till 7 pm at night when they had the m5 field set up first thing and they didnt even start till the saturday ???

Location, Location.
Actually, I've just got back, and the Div3 field (with standard poles and netting) had also suffered the brunt of the weather, with 2 poles on the end of the field completely buckled beyond repair and the netting down with it during saturday. Many of the other poles were also visibly warped and bent.

We spent a little time in the Joy pit whilst they were waiting to see what was happening on Saturday and the staging area tents took off whilst we were under them, again, about 8-10 of these were pretty much destroyed by the wind (and they'd already taken the canvas off most of them!)

People were wandering round with goggles on simply because so much sand was being blown about and I got the impression that the only reason everyone was kept in the dark about resuming play was to keep the vendors happy and keep everyone milling about and potentially shopping.

In fairness to Millenniums, play couldn't have gone ahead regardless of the bouncy castle/standard netting issue, but more could have been done to keep the players in the loop. They did work all night to get the fields re-laid however and you've gotta respect their staff for the work they put in to try to keep the event on track.
Well then, thats a different matter, if the traditional stuff wasn't holding up fair enough. God wins this one :)

I would still say however that the new netting is woefully inadequate, if even a quarter of what ive been told is true. It just seems like its been put out there to "wow" the players with little thought.

I'm no enginmanear, but I reckon with a couple of McDonald's straws and some clingfilm I could put something together offering equal robustness AND have it ready for the next event for half the price.

I'll be expecting a call.
