Ok updates.

I have been asked by the marketing arm of Scotkart to do the PR for them, this will entail promoting the sport of paintball, using Clan as an example of a "PRO" paintball team, yes I know, we are NOT pro, however, they want to Market Clan as the local PRO team that uses the venue. I think the word PRO on this instance is not in regards to our standing, but to our commitment to tournaments.

Clan have been asked to do showcase games, both to staff and owners so they have a better understanding of what tournament paintball is about, but also to local media. This is taking place Tuesday 19th May, Clan only I'm afraid.

Saturdays are pretty much out the question as this will be the scotkart busiest day with customers direct. I have had a long discussion with the owners and explained if they want paintball players to use the facility I have advised they consider £10-£20 walk on fee and either BYO paint or paint at a heavily discounted price. I have also explained if the paint for tournament players is too high they will not use the facility. My thinking is simple, if they have 20 players running a walk on, mixing teams, training, coaching etc for say 4 hours on a sunday then at least the facility is making say £300-£400 with no real expence to them. If they charge £5 per 100 paintballs then these walk on events will not happen as people will not be willing to play and this in turn is lost revenue.

I am also being contacted by the owners when people are applying for jobs at the facility asking essentially to verify I know them and that they are who they say they are, if they are from a paintball playing background.

I think in all honesty the owners realise that if they want to paintball community on board they must accept they cannot charge over the odds for the use of the facility.

Hope this helps so far..

The defence rests ;)

What we have to understand is this is a business, if 2 or 3 people are trying to use it every weekend then seriously I can't see it, from our point of view i.e. players we have to be flexible, they have the facility we would like to use, if this means we need to accept doing say a mid-week for 2 hours training then this is better than nothing right? Also, weekends are the busiest times for these types of facilities, i.e. paintball/karting. This is where the owners will make their money. In my opinion tournament players, teams, clinics, training session are an add on. I know they are looking at starting a 5 man league for new players again I think this may be a saturday night league or something, same idea as soccer-leagues i.e. Pitz etc. Where 5 guys have a team and play other teams. I think the concept of this is excellent and something I'd like to see happen. However once again this will be for new players who will pay for this in terms of rental, equipment hire, paint etc. I'm pushing the tournament/walk on side of things and using my experience and essential presence in the Scottish Paintball Scene as my bargaining tool. Trust me, I'll do everything I can for the players and make it as inexpensive as possible, but again we need to accept they have the facility, we want to use it so we need to find some common ground.

I will speak with them on Tuesday about organising the first walk on day. My thoughts are simple, get as many Scottish players as possible to the day, it will NOT be run as a tournament, more a fun day where players from all levels new right through to "PRO" if we can get them all mix and match teams and play for the day, I want to show Scotkart the potential that is there and the support they will receive from ourselves. Hope this makes sense.

Once I have spoken to them I will E mail all the players who have contacted me direct and put details on here and other forums. Drum up as much interest as possible.

Also, please understand I cannot give this my FULL attention as I am a father of 5 kids and have a business and my own team to run...but I will be putting as much effort as I can into it, I only hope you as players will do the same and respect this place as well.

Cheers for the updates Sid, especially seeing as it isn't even your business! Should be good if all goes to plan like.
