i'm religous and follow the mormon faith. i did rebel for a while but then went back too it after going to one of the camps, i feel my life has been better for it and can't imagine living any other way now.

(i'm not saying that to get into an argument with the post above me, i respect others belief and find them intresting and can see why people feel diffrently to others)

Religion will fight you tooth and nail on that last part ... such is the tragedy / salvation of whatever belief system you align yourself to.
Alas, I fear that to be the truth!
I still chuckle at the memory of being taught the story of Adam and Eve in Religious studies and then Darwins theory of Evolution in Biology, followed by Carbon dating placing the beginning of the Solar system at about 15 Trillion years ago in Chemistry and Physics :p
I think I rather believe in the "Blind Watchmaker" over 'Blind faith' any day of the week!

In case you didn't already realise it, I am a confirmed and contented Atheist
Despite having fairly intact moral fibre. :)

There are many Church supported educational establishments and even State funded Campus's in the US Bible belt where Darwin is denounced and the theory of Evolution ignored!

my personal veiws is that all religion was only created in an attempt for one group of people to gain power and/or influence over others and has led on from there.

Whilst I do apreciate others may find it comforting or guiding to belive in such a thing, I am a man of science and unless a God came down and slapped me in the face so to speak, I wouldnt believe untill I saw it.
Took the words right out of my mouth. From my perspective, religion is a tool for controlling the simple minded, gaining power, and having an excuse to discriminate against others.

In my mind, a perfect world would be one of a great many religions, but those who practice said religions would not feel hate to everyone who doesn't believe the same, and certainly wouldn't dare walk around trying to convince everyone else to be like them.

A lot of the posts im reading are based on RELIGION not FAITH/BELEIF.
my beleif....survival of the fittest, and nature will take its course, we have no control over it and are just a tiny speck of sand in a giant desert. We have to fight to live on the human race, no matter what course nature takes.

Survival of the fittest might have been true once but now its nonsense. Hell, its more like survival of the fattest.

My problem isn't in the believing in God. I feel most people feel there may be a 'higher power', whether it be karma, or just the gut feeling of the basic difference in sentiment between doing right and wrong. I won't get into any more than that, but this generic feeling is common throughout religious types and even the less than religious types.

My question is for the Christians. "Christian' is a wide phrase, pertaining to many different religions, but the common thing with them is that they all have to believe that jesus is the son of God and that he came back from the dead (the ressurection). if you don't believe in the resurrection, you can't be a christian. If you go into a christian church, and say - "look, I want to get more into the cheurch, but can I do it without blowing my cover and claiming that jesus was immortal?", you will be told you are not welcome. Try a different religion, like Judaism...

Now, there is historic evidence that the bible was changed to accept jesus as the son of God (was it Pope Clementine that made this decree? - I'm sure jay has the detail). The christians wanted to claim that he was divine to elevate their own religion above their competitors. With such an obvious and documented lie, they undermine their teachings and put me right off. Religions and religious organisations need to tell the truth. Find me one that tells the truth and I'll look at it. Try to tell me that something is blue, when there is overwhelming evidence to convince me that its red, and I have a problem believing anything you say from that point onwards.

A number of changes have been made to the "rulebook" over the course of time. Let's not forget that it was written many years after Jesus passed.

One of the things that gets a giggle out of me is the ever changing role of Satan.
Originally there was no devil. Satan was God's right hand man, and would list your sins after which God would pass judgement. Later on he was turned into this big evil monster, actively trying to influence the world. These days most Christians see him more as a figure of speech type thing...

That's why I pray at the Church of Chuck Norris.
