Well fair play,i just re read it and think i've extracted the goodness from it.

But there is i think a flaw it what your saying,it only works from the premise of the rather modern concept of FACT,we in these more contemporary times have been conditioned to believe there are absolute truths if something cannot be quantified in tangible terms, then it cannot exist, when taking that in terms of quantitative science which it think your digging at then yes, good science is only good if it can be repeated and until we invent a new piece of equipment to measure what we are observing or come up with a theory which supercedes the current hypothesis.

I think there is perhaps a blurring of the physical and the metaphysical stated here.

It has to be said that human beings are more than 3 buckets of water and some minerals, there is another more ineffable component to a human being, whether you see it as consciousness,a brain event,or a soul.

Science for the physical.

Faith for the metapysical

If you want to choose one,or the other,or both or neither then that is YOUR truth. Such is the way of things my friend. What is good for me is good for me,whats good for you is good for you.

I find that for such an intelligent and articulate man who has travelled so widely and had such a length of life experience you seem to have a very concrete and rigid viewpoint on this which i find suprising.

Maybe its just old age creeping in mate;)

When I was at school, bible studies were on the curriculum so I gained some knowledge of this book and it's teachings.
Since life has encouraged me to educate myself beyond the teachings of orthodox schooling I have discovered amongst others, the books of Richard Dawkins, namely; The God delusion and The blind watchmaker.
I urge all free thinking theologians to read these books.
Seek enlightenment, do not fear it, then draw your own conclusions!

Thus endeth the sermon! :p

Yea, I spelt Religion incorrectly, and there was me trying to look smart:eek:

Also the idea you can be a mass muderer and commit the most hideous crimes against humanity but then go to confession and be forgiven in the eyes of god because you said sorry really tickles me.Obviously this is only one religion.
Well one religion that uses that particular method of absolution, but most religions condone the oppression and slaughter of non-believers....and believers (under the right circumstances) so long as its a faith based reason. The Abrahamic religions, (Christianity, Islam, Judaism,) are the ones that we think of the most as they are the most recent large scale religions, but its been happening for millennia.

Wasn't mosaic law superseded by the teachings of Jesus?

i.e. you can eat crab now?

For me God is all things to all people. Our God's are the same, its just the perspective we view them in.

He doesn't need me to go to church every week, or do any of the ritualised things. As long as im cool to people, learn what i can while im here and try to be a better person every day, I figure he'll be happy.

OK, I will answer this even though I did say I wasn't gonna get drawn into these constant rebuttals of posts I make.
First off, let me give you a rule of thumb mate, if you think I have made a flaw in anything I have written, then it might serve you well to go back over your thought process (and re-read the post in question) and just double check it.
I did suggest you do this in a previous post but it seems you still haven't understood my post mate.

When I first read your post above, it took some time for me to digest what the heck was going on and I had to re-read it a few times to get a handle on it, and even now, I'm not so sure.

I will approach your post from the premise of your suggesting of a 'greying' of the areas of what we as contemporary observers, might describe as fact.

I will keep this simple, and I can do that because it is simple.

To mention this blurring of fact when it comes to defining or understanding what we presently believe to be absolutes is completely inappropriate when responding to my 'geocentric' example of religious blind faith.

And I can suggest that because, I very much doubt there will be any supercession of discovery that doesn't place the sun at the centre of our planetary system.

The whole point of my using that example was to illustrate the ignorant, blinkered, agenda-ridden reaction of the 16th century church when confronted with something that runs contra to what they teach ...even when the truth was so obvious.

This obviously completely undermined the idea of faith because in this context, it was shown to be running to the truth of the matter.

I'm afraid nothing of what you write undermines this example in any way Kris and if there's any flaw mate, it's because you failed to appreciate the context of that example and its consequent relevance.

Peace !

This is why i hate religion . . .

Well, ill start on the Mormon camp I was sent on when i was 12 (long story, got a Mormon auntie). This camp just about F*ucked my views on religion for life. Vividly remember everyone crying round a camp fire, kids that weren’t religious and had suddenly found god, WTF. This is simply praying on kids vulnerabilities.

Second episode was the girlfriend I had, who was into happy clappy Christian stuff, she was really hot, so I put up with it for a year. Than literally, a year into the relationship she said we shouldn’t have sex any more, as it really wasn’t Christian. Oh my god! We split up soon after that

These two episodes really put me off! Think I will stick to the faith I have in myself, not God!
