to me, religion is their as a ''crutch'' for humans, something to blame, idiolize, claim, support and reason our actions.

i dont beleive in religion, just as i said, something for human kind to lean upon to help us through times hard, or justify our acts (crusades, wars, bombers).

think its a load of rubbish lets just get on with life! expand human kind, let nature take its course, have a good time whilst were at it! and survival of the fittest on earth.

A lot of the posts im reading are based on RELIGION not FAITH/BELEIF.

This is what gets me when people say they do not beleive. They do not beleive in the idea of God purly because they do not like the idea of organised religion and the extremists that do actions in the name of God (whichever one you beleive in).

taking organised religion out of the picture, what are peoples feelings on there being something greater than ourselves?

But is not knowledge the foundation for improving ourselfs? If we had the Knowledge that god exists, that there is something past this life, that he himself said he wouldnt fix our screwups, would that not make us better as a species?

There would be noneed for greed and wealth, as everyone would know that everything they do here, would be nothing in comparison to what he could tell us.

See this is where I go into almost preachy mode to anser this Q.
The simple answer is that he has.
Jesus.
The diety of God on earth in order that we may learn to be more rightious and lead good lives. His teachings arent about saying "do this, else you wont go to heaven." they were "if you do this, then your life and those around you, willbe better"

The ten commandments were a set of guidelines on how we should goabout our lives also, and they still apply to day and in my eyes make sense still. And are the basis of todays legal system.

See, we can always ask "but if". however IF that situation arouse, could you truthfully tell me that society would not turn around and say, "but your all powerfull, why wont you help us? doesnt seem very God-like, I dont think you are a God, your just trying to control us, F*** you"?

Rewind, I am in no way disrespecting you or your right to choose whatever you want to believe in but if you come on a public forum spouting, then expect to be rebutted or criticized or both.
You talk bollocks mate, and I can say that because, you talk from a position of faith and yet state it as as if it were fact ....and it ain't mate, it just ain't.

People had faith in the idea we lived in geocentric planetary system, they were wrong, faith per se, is only sustainable up until the time a new fact comes along, in a sense, it's disposable ...and even then, the die-hards won't let go, how long did it take the church to embrace the idea of a sun centered planetary system when the facts of the matter were plain to see even for an idiot???

incase you take me to be someone who is blinded by their beleifs and wil listen to no other, then your wrong.
i like listening to others point of views and reasons behind them. I think of everything logically, and enjoy when questions in my own 'faith' arise.

Most of the questions I point out are for debate only, and are not aimed at, or critisising anyone.

Also, I havent had a philosophical debate in a long while, so apolagies if i have 'come on too strong'. I just enjoy them.

It was also accpeted as the correct model by Arabian astronomers for nearly 1000 years.

* edit Copernicus,Gallileo and Kepler almost all devout catholics hypothesised that the Earth revolved around the sun in the 16th century. Maybe mans question of why do we exist and what created us (both a theological and scientific question) inspired those men to seek answers. Many modern astrophysicists are devoutly religious and can reconcile the two systems (science and religion) quite adequately even stating that one inspires the other . String theory and advanced quantum mechanics are at a level now where science and religion are actually beginning to converge.

Kris, I'm not sure if you have misunderstood the point of why I mentioned the geocentric model because I am fully aware of its origins and also fully aware it predated the Christian church.

I think you better re-read my post mate and understand not just what I was saying but also why.
