Teamwork ?

onasilverbike

I'm a country member!
Teamwork depends on mutual trust & respect, trust can be built up between individuals through association and bonding as a unit. If you don't trust and respect someone on your team it is very difficult to work with them effectively.

Interesting that paintball sites promote themselves as being a team building experience for their corporate experiences

Yes I do .....but some may not believe it and some even contest it :)

I'll give you a clue in the light of something Dev suggested, he said,

'I think teamwork depends largely on the level of communication'.

...... I think Dev is implying you can talk your way to good teamwork, leastwise he believes it's a major component.

I will contest it isn't ....... tho it is undoubtedly a factor, I'm suggesting it's just not a major one.
I was referring to my Dynasty/RL comparison, with regards to you knowing the truth, but yeah.

I suppose, team work can be broken down to:

- Someone in charge
- Each member knows and can do their job
- Each member knows why their job is important
- Each member knows each others job and it's importance
- Each member knows the plan or plans

Given those factors, a team working together, should be semi automatic, simply by adhering to the factors.

I feel that "teamwork" is a bit of a dodgy term that is applied to a variety of behaviours, each which can be quite different

One may argue that teamwork constitutes the execution of a coordinated plan, I would probably refer to that as a play, or at least, not the true value of real teamwork

Teamwork seems to be more along the lines of when you start playing off of other players on your team, and they do the same back

You don't act like a bunch of individuals communicating with each other - acting like little islands with walkie-talkies - you become a cohesive unit that behaves as one being with many heads - a hydra

Hard to put into words, but to me it's just when everything "clicks"

- Someone in charge - Academic really but essentially no, sorry mate

- Each member knows and can do their job Hmmmmm, well sorta but I suppose that's a given really.

- Each member knows why their job is important Well, that just sounds like fancy wrapping to me mate.

- Each member knows each others job and it's importance Once again, sounds as tho it does make sense but in reality, it just don't add up to much at all ......

- Each member knows the plan or plans You are assuming here that all team work is gonna be restricted to game plans and that's just not the case mate. Teamwork is exampled in all phases of a game with it's appearance in game plans being the minor part.

Actually you bring up a really good point mate coz we are talking about teamwork as tho it's already been defined and understood ...and you rightly bring up the idea that maybe we better try and define it if we are gonna discuss it.

At the risk of continuing to appear retarded;

Someone in charge

Well...in my experience (not just paintball, as my experience there is limited), any team that produces results by working together, has to have someone who is in charge. A democracy might work some of the time, but ultimately, they need to have a decision maker. Academic, yes, but a factor nonetheless.

Knows and can do their job

Again, a given perhaps, but if it wasn't there, would the team work?
One would assume shooting the opposition, is a good start, but each player has a main role, so they need to know what it it is.

Knows why their job is important

Fancy wrapping. OK, yeah..."your an important part of the team" to make them feel less like cannon fodder. Not what I mean. It is one thing to tell someone what to do, another to tell them why they are doing it, which leads on to...

Knows each others job and it's importance

Because then, they can pre empt what a team mate will do next, based on what they are doing and what they are achieving. Also, they can prioritize their role and that of another player, should that player be lost. So they can decide if they need to insert, cross up or do two roles etc.

Knows the plan or plans

I have never really been a believer in planning too far...not much further than the break really...but a team usually has a plan of sorts, and a backup plan. Especially if they know how the opposition is likely to play. So by knowing what way to play the field, rather than hope for the best, reactions should be more instincive.

I am more convinced of my first post than this one, but I was trying to breeak down what any team of people, should know in order to complete a task, which is another way to look at how "Teamwork", can deliver results. It is not an additional to my first post, but an alternative, simplified possibility.

As I aluded to im my initial post. My belief, is that watching a team "working together", could be based on drummed in drills and scenarios along with the technical ability, or intuitive behaviour produced amongst a tight group combined with technical ability. With my bet going to the team that knows each other, rather than the robots.

cba to read whats been written here cos...

But as far as im concerend teamwork cannot be taught! Teamwork is about bonding as a friend group (no not in the sexual way you sick perverted *******s) Its something that cant be taught, you either get along with the people you play with or you dont!

If you dont get along with them problems will occur - the blame will be passed around/.laid on someone whether its their fault or not!

If the whole team gets along hunky dory! then fine, then the team will perform better, everyone will know how to and respond to each others comments/criticism much better and take it on board and utilise it.

If you dont arguments/ team disarray will occur.

Team bonding etc important however if you dont get along with someone - not much is going to change that imho.

However, teamwork although crucial in how your team performs is not the key to you winning - the skill of the overlal player is! - look at rugby/football - both rely on teamplay - at international level - even if you dont get on with the bloke - you are gonna have to use them at some point so you respect the skill they have (which is obviously pretty high as they are representing the country) - regardless of your attitude towards them - and get on with the game and try your hardest to win!
