Hi all,

I was considering getting an Ion XE package like this:

http://www.lpspaintball.biz/acatalog/SP_06_07_ION_PACK.html

Reading the back posts on this forum, alot of people are opting for a Proto PMR09 instead, though this seems to be personal preference. Both are roughly the same price,

What's wrong with the Ion XE that people dont like so much ? The deal above looks pretty good?

(BTW this will be a belated christmas present to myself in the new year, so i can go play :)

Thanks

Tom

Hello :)

This gun was my first when i first started off, and when I first got it i thought it was the bees knees. Its only after time that you relise that the ion isn't what its cracked up to be.
1) First encounter, the feedneck! my hopper had to be rammed down into the feedneck, and once in i couldn't get it loose! Would recommend a upgraded feedneck at around £25
2) Gagits! The board inside was a hassle with me, if your a first time user of an electro there are better stock boards in PMR's and Mini's which are simplier, there are more firing modes in mini's and PMR's, so if you wanted to ramp in milleniums or masters then consider getting a new board £75
3) ASA(the bottom bit which the bottles attached to, basically its naff, If you don't want to upgrade it then i would suggest making sure theres no air inside the tank, else this creates a pressure between the tank and the ASA internally, so you need to make sure its real tight when you screw it it, or halfway into a game you might lose air. A new ASA with Purge £25
4) New trigger the stock ones just naff plastic, over time you'd get this changed. £25

These are the faults that i have found with the Ion, its a very awesome marker once you'v got all these upgrades, and you will smile once you have tried a stock and an upgraded one when you know and feel the diference. As you can see it will cost you about the same price as 2 Ions to get a stock one upgraded.
If you want something without hassle.
I'd suggest a mini (I have one and it was the first shoota i feel in love with) this will last you along time before you get something more expensive if yu decide to go that route.
PMR from 2008 was good, very reliable and quite, I can only presume that the new PMR09 is about 20% better then its predecessor.

If I had the choice between the three... I'd choose the PMR. Don't be scared to spend more, you will get what you pay for without a doubt :)

Hope this helps!

Slimmershot,

You have converted me, done some more research and the PMR09, will probably be my choice. How is the invert mini going though, it does look very cool, and is like 60 quid cheeper :)

Hi Tom welcome to the forum

seeing as you live in london why not pop into your local paintbll stores and handle the markers yourself and get a feel for them in the flesh?

regards upgrades the prices listed above are just a rough outline i can garantee if you use these forums you'll find most of them a lot cheaper, take a wander over to the classifieds section and have a peak ;) some good buys to be had there.

also LIPs have a supporters forum so you can speak to the sales team on here aswell.

hope you get yourself sorte and welcome again

happy xmas ;)

First of all the ion is a good little marker but compared to the better markers out there like the PMR , DM , Egos , your best off spending that little bit extra if u can afford it a SLG ultralite or even an Angel A1 :) will see u happy for many years to come

I would go to the LIPs shop and make a judgement based on seeing what you could buy from them. They will be able to give good advice, which is fair and impartial, and you might avoid buying the wrong gat and wasting £££!!!

Take PIES to secure a discount ;)
