On topic though, the opening sentences don't surprise me at all, paintball has history of in fighting, bitching and certainly has the capacity to destroy itself.

The only people I would trust with the future of our sport are the guys who have been around long enough to have seen it all (most of the above mentioned). Some might say that's a bad thing as there's no new blood in there but these people can listen to what the newer players are saying and have the brains to filter out the wheat from the chaff to take things forward.

I hope things do move forward as I would hate to see the UK scene die.

Thanks for the update Robbo.

Surely if companies feel a change is needed to help Britball, a wider scale of positive ideas and opinions would be of great help ?
For those companies, whether small or big, that are genuinely wanting to help, why not have them email you some thoughts and ideas. If you find some good recipies within those emails, invite them for appetisers.

Sounds like a great socialist principle and I can understand you feeling like this but you are gonna have to trust me on this one mate coz it has been my experience in such matters, too many people just bog things done.

I agree, a lot of these guys will say they wanna help but unless we adopt some degree of filtration we end up listening to everybody there fifty times over and we never get anything done.
I think the 'Thoughts Please' thread has already given us a great insight into what should be done and we don't really need to take on board any more ideas, we just need to do something now, and to achieve this, we need to have the doers, the movers and the money men.

Totally agree. Augustus Ceasar had it right: to do great things you need one man to just do them, rather than conflicting opinions slowing the whole thing down.

I just heard some great news which has got me bursting with enthusiasm, so I gotta share it here ... :D

I just had a very brief chat with my local woodland site operator, and it turns out that he has recently bought a field, with a view to setting up a Supair site, for hire customers who don't want to join in bigger days at the woods. In the short term the view would be to offer small groups of players (10 - 15) the oppurtunity to play amongst themselves on the supair field, for an hours play, or 2 hours etc (like you would do go karting or lazer quest) - thereby offering a new paintball experience. At the same time he hopes to grow a local scene of pub / school / sport club teams who can compete against each other, using rental kit or limited own kit.

Obviously this is only one tiny venture, in its infancy, but has got me really excited ! I shall keep the forum updated with how it goes.

But - land is there, air is there, bunkers are there, legal side is mosty taken care of under the existing woodland site setup; ... this thing is a stone throw away from getting started.

What is also great is that there is already a small home grown market of customers that have expressed an interest in joining in, and the site already has a pretty good marketting machine setup that can easily be utilized to attract more.

Sounds good, huh ' ? Lets get that new blood in ...

Thats what my site already offers. The scene is growing here in Ireland and we are trying to do it in a slightly structured fashion, in that we hook players with woodsball, then bring them to Speedball open days where teams are made up of experienced tourney players mixed with new guys.

No one feels intimidated or inadequate, they get to touch and feel loads of different markers, masks, packs and have all their questions answered.

From there we now have a team, Dublin Karnage, who came third in Div C in Paris, and it was only their second ever millenium event. Hopefully their success will breed enthusiasm and the dedication to practice over the winter months.

Jimmy, the proposed changes are much bigger and a lot more important than the top team(s) here mate.
It's all about Britball and not pro teams, and as such needs to be a lot more comprehensive in structure and in scope.

I am sure there will be enough people in attendance to give us the perspective for top teams, if in fact, it is deemed necessary.

The industry guys are calling a lot of the shots and if they feel any sponsored teams need to attend to help this initiative along, then those top teams will attend anyway mate.
