Just got back, first off apologies to Portox who I promised to meet and promptly had my phone die. We came up to look for you in the trade village but couldn't see you :(

Absolutely knackered, coughing up god knows what from all the dust and burning tents but overall a great festival.

The concrete Tuborg stage was interesting, saw some nice asphalt burns in the pits, had a bit of a slam myself but luckily didn't fall over or break my nose this time.

To the music, Kiss were brilliant, I know practically none of their songs but just for sheer entertainment majorly worth it. Rival Schools were awesome, finishing with a truly epic rendition of Used For Glue. The sound was actually much better on the Tuborg Stage throughout I felt. The Offspring played really really well, but didn't have any stage presence whatsoever, but they're supposedly punk and don't need it. Lostprophets were great - lost my voice singing away to their old stuff... Everybody knows Liberation Transmission was a big pile of poo, so I'm glad they played mostly from FSOP and Start Something. They had great stage presence too, their banter was very amusing.

In Flames came on did their stuff and left, vocals were too low but otherwise they played tight, I enjoyed eating ice cream on the hill and watching them.

Pendulum were entertaining, I much rather prefer their proper drum and bass from 'Hold Your Colour' though, as opposed to the weedy rock they're trying to muscle into 'In Silico'... But did have a bit of a jiggle.

As for wearing paintball kit I fully admit rocking out in my WELT T-Shirt for 3 full days, and thus now it isn't quite the same dazz white it was before, but you have to represent of course ;) But seriously, if you were wearing paintball pants, weren't you baking hot?

APOCALYPTICA - **** yes. Four piece Cello death metal band rocking out on the main stage! They even flew in Christina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil for a special guest vocal on S.O.S. Brilliant.

I was looking forward to seeing Jimmy Eat World, and yes they played well but they didn't impress me at all, it was more like a Karaoke than anything else. Black Stone Cherry were pretty good though, and were in the same vein as Alterbridge. A big suprise were the unsigned band Vera Cruz who absolutely nailed a stonking set after winning a competition to play the slot, and play the slot they certainly did. Unsurprisingly Throwdown also played aggro-core / thrash metal by numbers and happily blew my face off with their riffs.

What was with all the walking? I heard about the Moto GP screwing up the layout but seriously they need to do something about that for next time. Absolutely massive market trade village thing though, which was nice. I even found the toilets were good too!

What else happened? Oh yeah, Kid Rock pulled out, which I'm embarrassed to say I found a little disappointing - there's lots of rumours as to why he did, but personally I think he was just being a great big baby.

Lethal Bizzle got bottled, but stayed standing resolute, and played a great set, not my kind of music but earned my respect right there by playing no matter what and pleasing everyone who came to watch. Not to mention simultaneously rappiung and dropkicking a fully laden incoming bottle of water out of the air.

Zebrahead kicked off the festival and rocked out well, though I had to physically close my girlfriends jaw when the lead singer took his shirt off. So what if he's all ripped, muscley and toned, that's not what a real man looks like! *grabs beer belly and wiggles a little*

Agree with the comment about Biffy Clyro, although I do think they played very well if only to be let down by a drunken (though looked like he was on smack) frontman. I also thought Seether's frontman was equally as plastered, although the music was pretty good. Disturbed had an amazing set, the sound went a little dodgy but you couldn't fault them otherwise.

So yeah, that's all I can think of up to now, I'm off to apply some aftersun to my boiled face, but adding all the above to a few crates of Strongbow, many bottles of Jaeger, and seeing a whole 7 sets of boobies, I think I had a proper result of a festival.

Portox's official Run DOWNLOAD (see what I did there?)

Firstly - Tendring; not a problem once off the phone to you my friends turned itself on or something magical occured and I left the Black Camp main path to the circus. Turns out we were in Blue Camp.

Thursday

Camping - A return to blue camp for myself as I were in there during 06 and in black for 07. Atmosphere wise it didn't pick up till thursday night with people just being drunkard and falling over etc ... Mostly very good as were not too far from anything in terms of facilities and the village been fairly close. Also my tent was incredible seems as though it was 15 for a set of stuff from aldi.

Seems as though I can't remember what day was which I will also break this into bands.

Night time - Duracell tent opened late shut early (diving off the top?) went to monster with mates fairly relaxed got my number taken off me because i smelt nice ... ?

Friday

Black Tide - Saw them with A7x watch out for these in like 2 years time going to be like Trivium I think.
Black Dahlia Murder - Sound was ****e but was mental non the less lord knows how the lead singer looks like my uncle simon though.
Kid Rock - No Show which was a disappointment as we had plans for that set.
Disturbed - Too much of the same but still worth a watch
Motorhead - Lemmy's getting old lets just say that

Rise Against - Bouncing about like a loon and getting down and dirty with some woman which was fun for both.

Kiss - I loved every minute of it need to pick up a CD mind as I only knew 3 or 4 songs. But those guys can put on one hell of a show. Like a closing headliner but on a friday.

Saturday

Skindred - clowns the whole lot of them enjoyed the songs i knew bored the rest.
Job for a cowboy - bit of a let down after my mates huge hype nothing much cracked off
36 Crazy Fists - Vast improvement on last year and I will probably get hold of some of their stuff.

Food Break I think

Throwdown - running round the sound desk was hilarious fun.
Bleeding Through - Worth a watch not that bothered overall
Amon Amarth - Didn't care much for them.

Bullet For my Valentine - BEST BAND THERE SO FAR. Best pits crowd working and also generally best band by knowing music people going mental for them and knowing how to make a crowd feel welcome.

Pendulum - RAVE RAVE RAVE RAVE RAVE. Dirty this time with Alice whom I saw later on.

Incubus - nice mellow set to calm us all down
Offspring - What Ste said was happy but weren't blown away.

Also mention I met Dave off here that day too which was cool. You were not too much of a loser which was fine I suppose.

Sunday

So tired caught some good bands. only mention would be Lost Prophets were very good but no encore.

Part 1 done ill do part 2 in a bit need to do some other bits first x

Staying warm on a sunday!
offspring looked as though they needed to be wheeled on.
they are getting OLD!!

no stage presence what so ever.
couldnt be arsed to speak to the crowd
no stage set up or backdrops

the tracks they played were good dont get me wrong... but i can listen to a cd at home which is just as good...

note to bands .... festivals are all about speaking to your fans and getting the crowd excited

and all this was in germany...
so to carry on and do the same at download just says they cant be arsed.

i give them 2 thumbs down!!

Monster Energy Stage - Rocking up to this a few times the attraction of a bar with fuel girls working a few poles above was highly entertaining.

Monster Energy Rave Place - Best entertainment there. Duracell guys this year were pussies in comparison to the stage dives they allowed the year before.

Toilets - better than I thought they would be due to the fact no more long drops and they were cleaned out like every hour which made it more pleasant over all.

Cracked Lips - had to buy lip balm to sort my incredibly cracked lips out.

Girls - for once more single women .... I'll leave it there as rumours can be viscous.

Tent - Aldi festival survival kit ... ****ing ace!

Food - Too expensive but the toastie van near the monster ramp was the best by far.

Booze - too expensive glad I snuck booze in everywhere but got bored of carling or strongbow wish i'd taken other types.

Crowds - good but need to be more like 06 to be worth while.

Randomers - love it every year.

Free hugs - get something better to do.

Partying - good overall.

much love

Tommy P :)
