Some Ironmen do and some don't.... at least that is what I saw at World Cup last year.

Gotta love some of the over-adrenalised, testosterone-fuelled opinions on this subject.

I'm curious, does anyone know whether teams like Dynasty, Ironmen etc. wear these tops? I mean for real, not just for promo shoots and the like.

i agree with the fact that if you have protection (for knees, elbows, shins, thighs etc) it needs to be soft for comfort, but other protection which serves only to lessen pain, should be made hardish. Not like big bits of plastic or anything, just tuff polystyrene or whatever.

I normally use a Under Armour cold gear top under my playing shirt which is a fairly thick second skin so not only keeps you warm and wicks moisture but also takes off some of the "sting" factor. Similar vests from other manufacturers do the same, they don't need to have whopping great peices of foam on.

if it continues on the current theme of bulked up protection wear, we'll all go round in yellow bolt on suits shouting "power extreme"!

Why dont you ban them from being used in the PA then..?

I would but this season I have decide to use the Millennium rules as that suits most of the players.
To try and reduce the advantage gained I am considering returning the chronograph limit back to 300fps from our norm of 280.

Like I said in my first post I am not against players wearing them if they can, why would they not use any advantage they could.

I don't bother because those things are usually too hot, but if I did it would be for one reason and that reason alone. 'Nuff said. I am amazed that some of these tops are permitted, but as long as they are then players will and should take advantage of it.

However, quality paint will still break on even the bounciest of vests available, and if a team wastes money on white box paint that wouldn't break on a brick wall at close range, the other team can't be blamed for their poor choice.

ok I wear a proto chest protector, yes I have medical reasons why as my skin bruises like a bitch due to treatment - but even if that wasnt the case I would still wear one.

Regardless, you get some shots that bloody hurt! Yeah I may be a wuss but after taking a nipple shot once with no padidng and it nearly being torn off im all for padding. Having said that i dont wear knee and i rarely wear elbow pads.... but for me my back, chest and kidneys are low pain threshold areas, if a tourney wasnt to allow them I simply would be unable to play;

I will admit I was shocked that so many guys wore them but I think they are great. Not for bounce just to reduce that initial sting.

I know alot of people dont wear them but people have to realise that people have differnet pain thresholds, I have met guys who pad up more than I do and vice versa.

I think the fact they are made is great, in the states we have a lot of young kids who play tourney and i mean 9-10 years old I think its great, and maybe that vest makes them feel a little safer.

I say yeah im a pussy when it comes to that but tbh without it I am not sure i could play. Having said that though I think once you reach a certain level, prob div 1 I think the added bounce they give becomes unfair. Yes I personally have medical reasons to need one but maybe at that level hard plastic if they want to wear it to guarentee more breaks lol

As for the bounce issue.... my tits cause more bounce that one of those vests - I have still never had a break on them do we ban tits? *grin*
thats just my personal opinion.

Just a question Russ...

When were you last at the sharp end of 19bps ramping marker 2 feet away being shot by someone good enough not to miss?
Well it's been a while but I have only worn armour for the last two years reffing and I get hit all the time for years from players who are not good enough to hit what they want.
And that is without the help and assistance of that lovely drug adrenaline that most of the players are using during the game.

My point is it is something that has been introduced and people who should know better are spoiling the game by allowing their use in competition.

Kitty,

I am not against armour at all and it is mandatory for woman to wear chest protection at PA events but does it have to be the sort that promotes bouncers?

now there was a class cartoon!!

on topic:

i am getting a proto vest for one reason only - in mahlwinkle we are expected to do a fair bit of room-to-room clearance scenarios.......and i'm not going in without some extra padding. call me a woose if you like.

on my occasional wanders onto the tourney field rather than the scenario i'll be leaving the vest at home - methinks i'll just get to sweaty :p
