i am commited to training when i can afford it and as long as its the days i am able to play. I am addicted to the game and cant wait to start proper training with a proper team. (mine isnt really in the best of positions atm :p) The thing is the older generation of paintballers who can afford to play every weekend and have a laugh is great but a lot of the paintballers are students, too young to have jobs, dont earn enough in jobs, cant get lifts, too far to go etc. thats why they wait and play once a month at ukmasters etc. its just how its going to be and always will be. its a shame really but it is unavoidable! I would love to play at d7 but its just too far so i go bassets pole when i can :D i know exactly what you mean though

They do not want to train they want to play, and thats all, it is very difficult to prove to them they would enjoy the game far more if they missed an occasional tourney and went to a training site.

totally agree with your point as to be honest I enjoy training alot more than I do tourneys. It has a lot more variety (play one on ones , change teams, change the field even) and you can play to you drop from exhaustion rather than ,as in 5 man, get shot off the break from a flukey shot and have to sit about for around an hour before the next game. Granted it is no longer as bad as that with x-ball becoming more prevalent but I don't now how people can bear to only play 5 man tourneys with no training.
I train at least every week nowadays and to give that up to play more touneys I would think is crazy. I play tourneys to test myself against others and to highlight areas I need to train more. Basically i play tourneys to improve my training rather than training to improve my tourneys and I think things would be alot better if more people shared this viewpoint.

I agree with everything you say here, I think tourneys are a great place to meet new people and get a feel for the different types of game people play. There's such a variation of tactic, you need to know which tactics catch you out the most, then you can work on those points in training.

just play airsoft instead with my bro
:p

As for what Chris said, we train at D7's too.. but us (a div4 side) going up against Disruption can be a little demoralising but they teach us what they can when they aint training themselves... training doesnt always have to be improving fitness or shootin lane after lane after lane.. we'd like some teams to play against each Sunday.

People will always have jobs to contend with, family which takes priority or lack of cash/travel.. but how did you get into paintball in the first place, whats different from when you first started by going to a local site and playing?

you askin for directions? or you wanting sumone to come pick you up :)

travel to and from a site is never a big deal unless people make it into one.. i can get from manchester to radcliffe using public transport.. but to get tehre for an early time means i need to get up REALLY early.. that all depends on the players commitment to the game/team or if theyd rather stay in bed watchin kids tv. i kno what id rather do..

Me too, I'd be on that field. I don't think it's the practicalities of it, it's just the money and other commitments (family/uni/work) that stop people getting to their local sites. If you can only afford to play once a month you're gonna want to compete in an event, not do drills or just mess about. I'm lucky enough to have a place to reball so I can do both :D(the joys of uni lol), but most people are faced with that decision I guess. Getting 7-10 people to all have cash at the same time is tricky business, doing it regularly....It's not even matter of commitment, it's just NOT possible for some people to play as often as others

understandable.. but what Mr.Edwards was pointing out was that there are a lot of people saying theres no where to train etc these are all valid reasons for not being able to make it.. but again... whats the point in entering a team to a tourney when you dont train.. how do you become better? or learn? (this debate can go on for a while).

if you dont have money one month, set aside a time and date for whenyou need money by etc.. or maybe youre doing the wrong sport.

let me rephrase....... why dont you lot travel then if you are struggling to find teams to train with

thats a good point, but we havent heard much from other teams... but if we travel to a field to train it means D7's North shuts for a weekend which is a loss so we all meet at the one place, get it up and runnin in the morning then have all day on it. we know this site will be set up ready for ourselves and others who want to come down.

any takers on offers to come train.. and vice versa?
