Yep - Still plays but I know Game will tell me where to go when I trade it in:(

Is it normal for them to scratch the disk like that?
If you move them from horizontal - vertiacl or vice versa yes.

Also on the cooling note, take a look at the base you stand it on vertically. Thats the main cooling point, great design from MS, I'll leave mine flat thanks Bill!

I had trouble with it over heating and freezing, layed it down been fine for 18 months, not a sniff of a problem.

Now I've said that I'll turn it on and get the ring o' death :(

wasnt there some kind of problem with the disk slippping out of the tray causing it to become scratched if it was up on its side.
Seem to remember a friend of mine having to replace some games because of that :( Good MS designs

its all very nice having the console standing vertical, but imho its not worth it

I have a nice TV unit which holds all my shizle anyway, so it only fits lying down.

console orientated so that discs spin horizontally aka flat FTW

well alot of overheating problems have been because of the power supply being faulty, also can get a bit warm if on carpet etc, so if possible try a mates or somthing. If it is your xbox and if got the 3 rings that if it not under warranty and you dont want to pay to have it repaired that are various diy method that google can lead you too but they might make the sitaution worse  They have got a knobbers rep for scratching disks when moved with them in.

If you haven't already try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909819

Also i tend to do this whenever somthing goes a bit dodgy, doesnt erase anything that is needed or important;):

Go to the system blade and then select memory.

Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?

3 Red lights of doom and torment is still covered under warranty for all xbox360 consoles (3 years?)

The early ones were a bit fooked, but the new ones are fine.
