Air Training should it be a prerequisite before you are allowed to self fill.

Question, Should everyone who wants to use HPA do a basic free safety course

The question is who is going to do all the training and who decides the content of the course. We have air specialists out there that need to get together and come to some mutual agreement and get on with the training.
The course and contents are already in use, we would just have to train up some other trainers to pass the information on.

I think it's a great idea, I know jack all about safety with regard to filling bottles and after this incident I'd really like to do a course for the peace of mind.

A 30 minute talk before an event is nothing compared to what could happen if something goes wrong...

I never said anything about them filling it for you, just oversee whats going on to make sure everyone is doing it safely, they are already at the event so why not.
Sorry misunderstood the question:eek:

But we can not expect that if someone who knows what he is doing is stood there he can keep his eyes on everything that players are doing.

like russ i have done this course he is on about, you sit there for about 20-30 minutes listening to the proper ways to fill your bottle and does and don,ts and believe me you will be amazed at some of the things you thought you knew about but in fact you don,t know squat.at the end of it you get a pass that is valid for a year and it,s FFRRRREEEEEEEEE,so there is no excuse just do it and feel a bit safer that the guy at the side of you just did the same course and is know doing everything right and ain,t going to blow you and your mates up because they did something wrong

That I already know (need to renew mine)
Point is let us stop fannying about asking pointless questions whether we should or should not when the answer is as obvious as I am dark brown in colour (when you can see me)

You own your own gun - well we want to know you are responsible enough to play safely whilst you are on our site

Yes

Cool here are the site rules, now go enjoy your game

Not a 100% guarantee but a darn site safer than the situation we have now

I have been speaking to my compressor specialist this week. i have been using HPA for many years now but it still scares the hell out of me. I will then run saftey briefs for everyone on filling their bottles safely and what not to do with them.

As far as i know but dont take this as 100% fact until i get more advice. Anyone that brings their own bottle to site is solely responsable for that and the filling of it.

My compressor is being fitted with a carbon filter so that no matter what no oil or water can pass through to the filling end. It will also have a speed fill fitted at a rate of 100psi per second. And within the next 2 weeks will have a blast box which you will place your bottle down into after connecting the fill line and then you can leave it there and then fill a few feet away. I have seen to many times people looking at their reg to see how much air is in the bottle inches away and had to tell them that the regulator on the compressor is set at either 200-300 bar so you cannot overfill. All this will be explained from this weekend.....

I've spoken to the hse and they have put me in touch with someone at rospa .Who said if i give them an outline of some of the incidents that have happened with hpa bottles and what we as a sport want to make filling and educating safer for everyone then maybe a training coarse and qualificaition could be setup.

The answer should be obvious. But the solution must be practical and workable. Requiring everyone to take a day-long course in air safety would be an impossible exercise, and the only option would be to disallow self-filling of bottles altogether. If we're talking about a 20-minute group course, that's quite reasonable to expect players to take part in. What kind of training are we talking about?
