See now you have me at this price thing!!! No, all i am saying is please lets not get into selling punter paint or little better at these tornies. i don mind paying £30-40 a box BUT i want it to be good paint.. that’s all.
Its only that both 5 mans i have played there have been many complaints about the paint and at one i paid £40 for a box of Proto that looked more like golf balls in was so dimpled and came in just about every bore size you could want in one box ... nice. I have shot better punter paint.
Thats very random BOX.. Proto paint that i have shot over the past year has always been excelent, bar a few breaks on super cold days.. Maybe it was very old, or was stored very badly?
All the proto paint round here is round and fly's like darts. It is a tounament paint, deffinately NOT a punter paint..

I see what BOX is getting at, I think a lot of you are focusing his mention about paint prices, grade, etc.

I might be wrong, and sorry if I am, but I believe he is simply attempting to find out what the appeal would be to bring some aspects of tournament ball into the woodlands, and hold monthly woodland tournaments?

Use the paint we use at tournament ball, use the same gear, bring down the same trade stands, etc, etc.

If this is the case BOX, a large problem you'll find is a lot of the people on here are tournament ballers, and prefer supair to woodland.

Points to note
Weather conditions on the day
How the paint was stored previous to you buying it
How the paint was stored during the day either by you or the retailer
How your marker and/or hopper is set up
All factors to take into consideration

I have personally witnessed paint rejected by one team being shot successfully by another team.
All paint has its off days and if you are unlucky to be shooting it that day and there is no alternative......................
Do not judge the paint on one days play - if you go somewhere regularly and the paint sucks tell the site owner and if nothing changes vote with your feet

Suns,
There have been regular woodland tournaments at various sites for years - probably more so last year than in the previous 5 years, it's just that they are not publicised on here as much as they should be

Suns is kind of on the right track, we have gone a little off topic focusing on paint price and quality. All the points about paint are valid though but it was not my main reason for this post to argue these points or to suggest that there is any miss practice by anyone so far. I am just trying to pre-empt the possibility.

Down South the woodsball scene seems to be on the up and a lot of walkons are now wanting to step things up a bit but don’t want to move to Supair, i have even spoken to some of the guys i know from way back when woodland tornies were the only kind of Pro paintball you could play, and even they are excited by seeing the return to Woodland Tornies.
Currently if you play walkons and want more of a challenge or want to play on a full on team, the only option is to come out of the woods and play Supair. Now whilst Supair has its place i aslo feel that a Woodsball tourney scene also has a place and seeing the come back of thiis side of paintball can only be a good thing for all, players, teams, site owners, kit manufactures and paint suppliers all stand to gain, and perhaps in the very long run it might even improve the 'Pro' scene in the UK. There was a time when UK teams dominated to Pro circuit world wide, now why is it that we can no longer do that? Could it be that some of the skills learnt in the woods could help with bringing up the level of Supair play. Well i think so.

So my appeal is more about those running these kinds of events to try to encourage this growth and not see it as just another profit opportunity just yet.
We can do this by bringing some of the levels of professionalism we see in Supair events to these woodland events, hence my comment on paint and paint prices.

Zimmer Zoomer, £90 + a box at tourneys was when we all used pumps and if you shot 2000 in a day you were a loony!!

Dark Warrior, all your points are taken, though as a player I have no control over how a site stores it paint. If they run a tourney I expect them to do everything they can to make sure the paint is good.
I have shot a fair bit of paint over 22yrs of playing… we did try everything on the day.)

You dont have to tell me that Dark, I know. :)

Apocalypse recently run a walk on day in conjunction with LiPs and it was quite popular. Unfortunately it wasn't a tournament and there weren't many teams.

Its just quite funny that what main reason BOX posted was completely ignored and people turned to and ripped into the comment about paint!!!

As I mentioned BOX, the p8ntballer forums is hugely dominated by supair players, myself included. A woodland tourney would be a good laugh, and could be really enjoyable.

So BOX, yes it could be a good idea but I think its more interesting to walk on's.

See now this is something that i keep hearing, why does everyone who has joined the sport in the last 8 years or so see the woods and Supair as being so separate or different??
Now please don’t all shout at me at once but I really do think that playing in the woods takes a larger skill set to be able to dominate. How do I justify this?? Well back when I played Pro we trained on arenaball/speedball (which is where Supair originates from) to learn all the basic skills, angles, lanes shooting, snap shooting, playing tight and so on, then we mixed these skills with fieldcraft in the woods. There are no tactics in Supair that are not used, or at lest should/can be used in the woods, playing the woods just takes a little more thought at times and allows for a bit more sneaky play by using the natural cover rather then the regular and symmetrical cover of Supair. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying either is better than the other, I play both and enjoy both.
I find it funny though that pure supair players seem to dislike or at least dismiss woodsball, now when I have played against a couple off Supair teams, (I believe they classed themselves as pro) we wooped their arse… maybe it was the bright DYE gear he he… :D
Do you all know that paintball was taken out of the woods with the first hyperball tourney only for the spectators and because of a TV deal to try to increase paintball profile and hence attract outside sponsorship!! Well that is aside for the odd Speedball at SAS Maidenhead and Areaball tournaments in 91,92,93 at Skirmish Meopham kent. I can assure you that it was not player or team driven and whilst we kind of accepted the reasons most still wanted woodland tournaments, we did not expect organizers to drop woodsball so readily.

As you say BOX
We all play recreational paintball, does not matter whether is woodland walkons, tournaments or scenario or its speedball, arenaball, hyperball, or Supair. All we are are a bunch of own gunners enjoying slightly different versions of the sport. I personally am sick of hearing woodsball vs supair with is best arguements, its not different to rugby league/union same basic game just different rules. An even better analogy is Hockey, whether you play Street, Roller, Field or Ice its still Hockey
I love the term Pro as well, do we actually have any British Pro-Players in the UK or out of it even, we may have a couple of semi-pros, thats it. Strange to think that supair players can call themselves anything more than recreational players, when at least 95% of them have never played an international game and less than 0.1% have played at world class level.

There is room for all aspects of the sport to develop if we drop the self centered approach and strive to be the best we can be in whichever facet of paintball we enjoy the most, but not forget that we all play recreational paintball.
