At the site I got to, slow fill to 3000psi on one compressor then another to fill to around 4000 psi slowly. It's one of those ones that you can turn it on and off... Definitely feel safe there...

i don't feel that air training course/drills for the end user are what's needed, as there will always be someone who either doesn't remember or is just plain stupid.

Make the fill rigs fill at the required rate that idiots can use.

Or, if that's not possible, have someone there trained to fill the bottles.

HPA is dangerous.

I used that compressor at Freekz the week before for the Nicky T clinic and its no faster or slower than any of the others I've used. Its newer and shinier and maybe a little louder as its all in one portable package.....at least it was until Nige viciously blew it up the little Paintball Terrorist he is ;) (kidding)
Hmm, I have the same time keeping as my dad then, 5 minutes could be 30 minutes for all he knows haha.
But even so, I think they should either slow it down, or get a proffesional, prehaps both?

Fill rates

Hi Guys,
we carried out fill rate/temperature tests on stako and Luxfer cylinders, the quickest we could fill o-300 bar was 15 seconds but that was minus our restrictors on a cylinder with no reg fitted to obstruct flow and shell temperatures were still within design limits, we then filled 2000-4500 every 5 minutes to simulate play situation and the shell temp dropped and stay constant, our fill rigs are fitted with restrictors and dont forget if you do 10 sec on 10 off you reduce your fill rate by 50%.At our last event we had complaints of filling to slow!
I suggest an independant body should inspect the equipment and a laboratory check to see what the combustiable material that caught fire inside the cylinder was.
Stako contacted me on monday and have been trying to contact the site to arrange this 3rd party inspection, we all need to know the answers and move forward, luckily nobody was seriously injured but we need everything checked to find the cause and reduce the risks.

a little question for thought. Pending the full results from the investigation, and any concurrent ones involving the effect of tempratures on carbon fibre bottles....

Would it be worth expanding the three minutes normally associated with an xball turn over to at least 5?

I only ask because round 4 of the inter uni is upcoming, and Id rather fill slower and cooler than feel that i would have to rush.
Now need to extend the fill time. Round 3 was at Snett and it took 30-45 secs to fill up to 3000psi from empty. Everyone seemed to have enough time. I for one filled my bottle form 0 psi and filled to 2000 psi then stopped then carried on to 3000 psi.

UK Masters versions of X-ball run a 2 min turn around and if I remember correctly so does the PA and both use H-Pac slow fill - 4500psi systems
Once your marker is filled the first time you should only ever need to top up so time factor should not be a problem as long as you have 2 fill points and an efficient pit crew.

You should even be able to manage a 2 min turnround with the Snett fill rig
