well Syd has to be seen to stand up for the brand which sponsors his team and is involved in his league. Anyone will tell you that spool valves won't work as well in the cold and wet without more attention and adjustments.

By the way, the climate here in Ireland is far removed from the south of england. as i said before not condusive to the good health of spool valve markers, and knowing the guy who made the enquiry in the first place, he hasn't much experience maintaining markers, and for ease of use and general maintenance an Ego or Angel would suit him far better.

No one can say that one is better than the other, at the end of the day, all markers now will spit out 15 ball per second with ease. the only difference between them is looks price and "feel".

I have to agree with Dusty, coming from the north of england i have to give my matrixes a bit more TLC when the weather turns cold and I have just picked up an angel for the winter months as the dm's will be more and more problematic as the temperature drops further.

Now I love the proto range and do honestly think they are the best shooting markers around at the moment and if I lived further south (god forbid) where it is a few degrees warmer I would shoot one all year round.

Now egos thats a completlely differant story:rolleyes:

I think most people will agree an ego you can use in any weather and not have to worry to much about maintenance etc as long as you keep on top of it. PM/DMs are good guns but will require more time spent on the tech bench taking them apart. Depends what you're in to.

I do indeed! :) However, my team is sponsored by Proto for a reason - the kit is excellent and the price is right! So, its hardly a chore speaking the truth.

Personally, over two years, I've had no problems with my Proto spool valve markers in any weather. They are easy to maintain - the bolt just slides out the back, you clean, lube and pop it back in. No hassle at all.

I think some of the opinions about the weather affecting spool valve guns are grossly exagerated but may come from the old dye lube that wasn't really designed for cold-weather conditions. That lube was replaced a long time ago and with the new formula (or dow 33) lube on your matrix, its fine.

I wonder how many people have posted up with no experience in the PM8:rolleyes:

Surely voicing an opinion can only really be honest if both guns have been used?
I have not used the PM8 so therefore I won't post my opinion:D

I have owned the 05,06 and 07 protos and every year they get better so I think my opinion is valid.

You should be asking how many ego sheepboys have shot the 07 and how many are just following the flock;)

Did I once mention any names?? Nor did I have ever have a go at one person.... The PM8 hasn't been around for long and I am willing to bet that a lot of people on this thread haven't held or used them:eek:
Like you said Gassy the same could be said for the Ego....
