This must be the worst event the millennium have put on EVER.

A feild in the middle of nowhere was the site for this event.
miles from anywere, it was like playing in the 90's. there was no way you would of had people from outside paintball even knowing there was a event going on AND THIS IS BAD FOR THE SPORT.

and then we find out when we get to the site on thursday that the main road around the site on sunday will be shut dew to a bike race between 8am-12.

i feel sorry for people who spent there money on this event.

somethink needs to be done .

I have a serious question.

How many people pay entry fees to promote the sport to people who don't play it?

If that is why you are paying entry fees, wouldn't it be better to just buy some advertising somewhere?

I would rather the leagues stop trying to spend money to 'be somewhere' and instead make sure the grass is flat, there's enough parking, and the referees are well trained and compensated.

Agreed. While having a high profile venue is nice, it's not the most important thing. As a player I'd rate the facilities for the players as being far more important.
Something like the road being closed is somewhat of a problem. So ignoring the visibility of the event to outsiders (who don't gave a rat's ass anyway), how were the facilities? How was the lay out? How were the fields?

The fields.
Cpl field - uphill from both startgates to the 50. XL-turf on grass that that was very bumpy
SPL field - same however without the convex features and a minimal scoreboard, not visible from the audience side (except at night).

The xlturf for both the fields were pretty ****ty, i am very surprised that there werent more injurys due to how they had spread the turf. Our snakeplayer sprained his wrist when it got caught under the rug. pretty sure they put the direction of the turf in the wrong direction at some places, fx, youd slide far to wide when going to the corners, whilst the snakeplayers would just go to a screeching halt.

I did not play on the other fields. They were however only on grass fields, no turf. Some fields had pretty deep tractor-tracks, filled with mud to fix the uneven surface. (SPL had some of these too)

distance from the spl and cpl fields to the staging areas was big.
Thursday, mud everywhere. The fixed it with straw spread over the muddiest areas.

Staging area for the non xballteams - no idea, were never in there.

For my experience, the whole venue was a total failure, considering what you pay for one of these events. Although I could very well see the point in using these venues, if it was an attempt to make it alot more affordable to go. Wouldnt pay half of the current entrance fee though.

Atleast they have ok-priced beer, and awesome waffles.

They're just making extra profit for themselves, i doubt they'd lower the price.:(

Honestly, the venue was horrible.

Like it has been said before, the place was completely in the middle of nowhere, which would be OK if it was a good site, but it wasn't at all.

Mud everywhere, the fields were uneven and bumpy. I would eve go as far as to say that they were dangerous to play on due to the placement of the turf.

The reffing (I can only speak for the CPL field) was average in my opinion, I saw and even experienced some really bad mistakes, and just discrepancy on the assessment of 1-for-1's on different sides of the field etc.

Not very solid or consistent. It seemed like some marshalls just had completely different standards, so if you were unlucky enough to be on his side of the field, you were pretty much screwed every single time.

Not taking anything away from them though, I've reffed plenty before and I know it's hard, and the conditions of the venue were bad for everyone, the CPL refs are a solid bunch of guys and they can do so much better than this, I'm sure they'll be back to their awesome form in Paris.

But all in all, the MS should be ashamed of putting on an event with such low quality. :(

Interesting that earlier in the year it was mentioned to me that this could be "THE EVENT" of the year, one that would probably put a nail in the coffin of Campaign Cup.*

I can't give a first hand report, I was due to drive out there on Thursday, but alas it didn't happen.

What I can say is that the information given on the Millennium website was pretty poor, the address of the site vague and I understand nowhere near where it actually was. (I looked on Google Earth, and at the venue's website, which in itself was not great).

The accommodation list quoted the time to venue as about 1/2 of what it would actually take you to travel (well we expect a few white lies) and from experience the Charleroi Ring Road is not something you want to tackle at peek times if you don't know where you are going.

I'm sure it suited French/Belgian teams very well as the area is not renown tourists from other nations, hence all the accommodation info and the venue info being in the Gallic tongue and the majority of local hoteliers etc. having little understanding of English. (Isn't that the International language of paintball?)

*Yet another blatant bit of UK paintball paranoia!

Well we drove there, it was fine. Centre Parks thing next door to the event, was ok, people at reception spoke very good english, and were quite nice.

It was a tournament in a field, yes. Was it a good event? Yes, I really enjoyed it. Where else am I going to get to play Dynasty in the finals of a major event? Best 2 minutes of a great, emotional kick ass weekend. Made some friends, probably made some enemies, shot people, got blasted back, saw the prize, died trying to get it and met Todd M, probably the best ginger person in the world behind me. What more could I want?
