I thought it might be worth exploring something after I read another thread and so here goes:-

Myself and many others, guys who have been in this game a long time (over 10 years) have often commented on the state of play of our modern game.
Now, a lot of us will suggest, it was more fun then (in the woods) not just because of the terrain difference but because the whole tourney atmosphere was different and can best be understood by players from that era saying it was more enjoyable, more fun etc..you get the picture?

This may well be nostalgia creeping in here but it would be interesting to see what a lot of you guys think about this modern game.
I realise that a lot of you won't be able to compare the two and I won't even begin to suggest that people like myself have a more qualified stance because we have had experience of both.
Still, it would be cool to hear the modern day player's take on things when they hear phrases like 'the good ole days'.

Are dinosaurs like myself talking out our ass or do we have a point?

There is, you just dont press Reply.

I suppose it is like any other sport really, my landlord did stock car racing for 21 years and won the Euro championship a couple of times. He admitted to me that once TV got involved and more money was going into the sport, more and more rules and regs were being introduced turning it into something else.
I suppose once the sport starts changing that much, its not what you fell in love with, but its offspring. Paintball has been going the same way for a few years now with more and more on TV, more money involved and by the looks of it, more rules.
Nowadays, it seems you have no input into the sport until the starting whistles blows and you get to make a decision.

Its a little bit like the Music thing where people say The old ones are the best ones;) however lots of the 60s,70s and 80s music you can find reappearing in modern music!

And nothing is as good as it was the FIRST time around Hence there isnt that much diffrence we just remember the way it was:)

Paintball was better in the 'good ole days',mainly due to the fact of the amount of tournys that were played, when i was in Shades of Grey we played around 30 tournys a year and not very much training and most of the top teams in the country were allways there, now most teams only play in 1 series and they will consist of 5-9 tournys and loads of training.

Dont get me wrong you need to train but it becomes boring and repetative, back in the day you just played tournys against all the best teams, thats one of the reasons i believe the uk was so good on the world scene

You may be right there Jimbo, I hadn't thought of that.

As we became more serious with the advent of Sup' Air etc, we shifted our time resources toward training more than playing tourneys but I'm not really sure as to why this should influence (in the way that it undoubtedly has) the degree of cynicism in our modern game ..... hmmmmm.... I need to ponder more.

Gone crazy, back soon...
Nostalgia certainly plays a part.......its a bit like your first shag....regardless of what she looked like, you still remember it......even if you are a male whore now.

So, the analogy stands with paintball, however much I enjoy playing now or however much I play now, it still doesn't compare to playing 15 years ago.

So, come back yesteryear.......someone organize an old skool tourney.
