What is the right number of tournaments to play in a year...

Isn't this Chicken and Egg tho?

Series organisers put on more events because their customers want to play, then teams have problems because they over-stretch themselves.

AFAIK, only the PA and NSPL have locked divisions - the PA had only 3 legs this year plus the PA Cup, and the Div1 NSPL requires attendance at 6 from 10 events over the course of the season IIRC (with the offer of quite a substantial prize package for the winner and runner-up), neither of which is overly demanding?

If teams stop playing so many legs, the organisers will stop putting so many on - but if there is demand, who is anyone to say to Wendy, Russ or Syd "Stop making a living from paintball" by forcing them to run fewer legs (not that I would know how to stop them, short of offering them money not to!).

Don't b!tch at the organisers - come up with a realistic plan of training and commitment for your team and stick to it!

You are right teams do overstretch themselves, but is it not in paintballs and the Organisers interest to try and stop that from happening.

The PA only had three events because I wanted to make sure teams and myself could cope with the format, it is very easy (and tempting) to offer more events but it is not good for the future and I intend to do my bit so the teams are there in the future so I can make money for a long time to come.

As far as the locked divisions are concerned I am kinda in two minds about that because as much as I agree in principal a way must be found to introduce teams into the league at there rightful position.
Imagine Nexus calling to play in the PA and I said sorry guys you will have to go in div two - yeah right.

I have worked out a system where (if I am right) that I can do a league and stand alone event within the same division, I know it sounds complicated but it could have some benefit.

Teams have so much power but you don't make it work for you, you have to voice your opinions on what you can afford comfortably each year not only the number of events but the amount of time between them.

isn't the larger problem the one you identified first Russell that there is too greater emphasis on getting the latest and most expencive kit. obviously playing too much costs to, but does it really make sense to buy things like 07 egos, that are in effect ( excuse the terminology) international standard markers, when you are playing low level domestic tournies? (not trying to offend anyone who does own an 07 ego and plays low level domestic tournies:p) . as you say, maybe the emphasis needs to move from best kit, go play tournies. to start small and train, then build up once you know you want to and are able to play regularly enough to commit to tournies.
I fully agree and we have even thought of a limited paint type format where you gun has to be two years old to play in the bottom division (the King of The Hill type division) but we suspended offering it because we thought we would not get the teams to make it viable.

being a student i can honestly say i cant play many tournaments a year, my team went to cc i played and had a wicked time, and we are trying to raise the cash to go to belgium and paris but money is the big object, i would rather play smaller events in the uk and spend money on training and improving myself/my teams game, time is also an issue as i have part time job to pay for the paintball on top of my schoolwork!!

I think you have to lock it for teams like that and the only way up to that division is if you invite them up. All other dive can be sorted before the event when you know who is coming.

i'm a student and as such the idea of limited paint is something with great appeal. the advantage with limited paint as i see it is that you can a) factor it in as a fixed cost, you know how much the day will cost you. b) theres no pressure to spend more to compete with teams who can afford ridiculous amounts of paint.
having read a bit about KOTH it seems like the way forward for entry level paintball. your idea about guns that are two years old makes sense when aimed at higher end markers but things like ions are entry level markers, even if their new, this makes it hard to classify what can and cannot be used, but i guess is a problem that must be overcome.

i currently pay between £40-£55 for a walk on (inc paint). if it was possible to find a tourny where i could pay £55-£65 (inc paint) for a day. I'd play.
