Following on from a few other threads. Theres all this talk about stand alone events and if people would play them with a risk if they are involved in a series event.

But, what would make you play it?

I can appreciate that to have the perfect event it will be a mixture of the points I'm about to list. Out of the points below which would be more important to you and give an in depth reason as to why.

  1. Cost
    Entrance costs
  2. Teams
    American teams, Pro Euro teams
  3. Field Layout
    Aggressive fields
  4. Style Of Play
    Xball, 7Man, 5Man
  5. Prizes
    Cash Prizes, Guns etc
  6. Trade Stands
    New & Established Companies
  7. Location
Where would you want it? Would it make a difference?
  8. Atmosphere
Or are all the other factors trivial as long as there's a good atmosphere?

You can choose more than one but please give an in depth reason as to why you chose that factor :)

Ps, Please dont just read this and wait for other people to reply, especially if you dont post alot on these forums and even more so if your from outside of the UK.

Ta Muchly

Since cockdwarf and hermitt are no longer with us, i thought I'd ask the questions in their place.

a) Why are you asking these questions?

b) What dastardly plan have you got going?

c) Who are you in with?

d) How much are you gonna make outa this?

e) Who are you reporting back to once you have compiled all the questions?

f) What secret message is embedded in those questions?

g) If you deny any involvement with anybody, and even if you swear on your kids there is no involvement with anybody, it doesn't matter, I will never believe you because you a liar and therefore I ask again, who are you involved with?

I think you get the gist

7. Location, i hate travelling too far and getting up too early to do it.

1. Cost, tournies cost too much for the amount of play you get.

4. i prefer 5 man

That's the main points.

I'd probably go for Format as a really important factor.

For instance, if there was a standalone UK event (yeah, I'm thinking small scale for now) I'd be more inclined to play it if it was xball format as opposed to simple 5/7 man. A lot of that is personal preference of format, but I think in broader terms Xball is a lot more interesting to watch (from both the point of view of a player, and of a member of the public). This would in turn help contribute to atmosphere I'd have thought. Also the fact that the format is Xball is more likely (i suppose) to attract the top UK and Euro teams.

Its quite hard to isolate one factor and say thats what makes a good event but I think I get what you're trying to do Mikey so go for it :D

1. Cost
Nothing more than £50 per player, the cheaper the better. (assuming this is a 1 day event. 2 days, £75 max)
2. Teams
As predicted, the more the merrier and from as far and wide as possible
3. Field Layout
Variety is the spice of life
4. Style Of Play
7 and/or 5 man
5. Prizes
Cash is always king, though prizes are nice because it's like Christmas that way
6. Trade Stands
Again a range is always nice, though if it's a tournament then keep more to tournament vendors, especially if they it can be arranged for special deals at the events
7. Location
South East England: Because Im greedy and want it where I live, but the closer to the London area the better it is served with transport links, as well as having a greater population in this area. For this justification, Birmingham might be good as well.
8. Atmosphere
Yes, this is nice! Events which bring the participants together would be good, e.g. events/competitions/challenges etc after the gaming has finished. Music around the place and comentary on the top games with good viewing access for them.

Other things to consider:
- Good behind the scenes infrastructure: Refs, toilets, food/drink at a decent price, admin/info centre, communications with head refs/officials, security for all our shiny toys.
- Good playing arena: surfaces, netting, clean bunkers.
- Decent safe car parking.
- Litter collection to stop the place getting too messy and smelly, seeing as many paintballers can be inconsiderate people
- Tech companies: People arranged to fix guns, though this may be part of the vendors
- Other facilites to enjoy after the balling: fair ground or other such activities that are cheap to get on

There you are, I hope you're not going to organise it Mikey or I might die.

  1. Cost
    £300 a team
  2. Location
Somewhere easy to travel to, plenty of hotels and secure parking & players areas
  3. Style Of Play
Xball (CPL style would prob work best)
  4. Refs
Must know the rules!!! Paid refs, no "teams reffing teams" crap
  5. Field Layout
Aggressive fields - same field...single field layout to learn
  6. Prizes
    Cash is King
  7. Atmosphere
Plenty of advertising to pull in non-player spectators.
  8. Teams
As long as there's a good turn out...who cares - thou the "pro" teams would make the atmosphere better with higher levels of play.
  9. Trade Stands
Give a **** - it's cheaper buying off the net...thou i guess it helps with the whole sponsoring the event kinda ****e...
Sam

Edit added: Personally i'm happy with the Millennium events - the only problems i think need to be addressed are:

PROPER REFS!!!!!! ...who know the rules!!! I've been playing a couple of years, and i know the rule book better than some of the guys i've had to put up with!

Higher prize money - higher incentive....either that or lower entry fee. (and dnt charge for player cards...)

Lastly, the netting - i'm not sure how good it's been this season...but last year it fell over every event...
