Depends what you do in the police though doesn't it? My friend Martin was in the police force and he had tattoos up both arms. But he wasn't a policeman as such, he was a manager in the control room.
I don't want to waste my degree, I'd readily sacrifice visible tattoos to go further up, and it'd be silly for me not to.
If you don't come into contact with the public, you've got a better chance of being let off I guess, but you'll always be a bit limited.

And there's still a small element of the 'old boys brigade', my mum still encounters it (she's been there since it was normal to ask the women officers to make the tea and get biscuits- think like Life On Mars, that's pretty close. She's only got where she is by being hard as nails (harder than some of you! :)) and whiter than white), so it's better not to give them any excuse to pass you over...

I've seen loads of police(men) with tattoos ,I recommend A.C.A.B on the inner wrist or possibly 13 on the neck.I met a Skinhead when I was about 14 who had the whole thing written on his forehead (ACAB) he also had a hell of a lot of scars there too..funny that.

Mine are hidden with a decent length short sleeve shirt ,on purpose, people make snap judgments on your intelligence due to your appearance.

Personally I hate piercings (sorry Rosie) Nothing makes me piss myself out loud more than some tit who has bought themselves a speech impediment by getting an amateur ,trendy (15 years ago) tongue or lip piercing.

"It inhanthes the thecshual sthimulathion" Ahhhh haaa haaa haaaa and so on.....

It's ok, I sometimes don't want to be a human being at all (let alone pierced) when I go into town & stand behind the goth kids in the shop I go in crying how they have to take out their piercings & cover up their HIM tattoos to work in M&S. But hey.

Any speech impediment I have now, I had before, a plastic bar won't really affect an occasional stutter (which is more mental than anything to do with your mouth), and I donth lithsp ;).

Don't get me wrong ,having been around the Body art scene for a bit I've met professional piercers and whether I like the art (hmmm) or not I except the fact that they know what they are doing ,unfortunately as I'm sure you know there are a million cowboys out there that will try and Peirce your tongue with a hairdressers Ear gun ,I've met many people who previously didn't slurr there esssess and I find it highly amusing that they go through the pain for such a ****ty result ,it's like Ollytheosteo said about that tattoo ,to me it defines a ***wit .

I don't mean everyone who has one ..actually ..yes I do ;) :D

Rosie, a quarter japanese sleeve would be wicked. I don't think small tattoos on women work, it should be a big piece. a quarter sleeve to just above the elbow is beautiful, not some dumbass little dolphin.

Piercings are old hat, i've had many, and ended up taking them out. Tat's are scars for life. Not a passsing fad. And 18mm shrinks back to nothing so 6mm should be a doddle

I agree...large (good) tattoos look great on women.

This is why most girls have what you put as the "tramp stamp". you can only see it when the person wants it to be showed off.

All of mine are in places i can show them off when i want to and then cover them up if i need to also.

Working in an office environment i have to.
