So far the only sensible thing I've heard is the change of date. All the other factors mentioned, while maybe valid reasons for individuals or teams not to attend, apply in the same way to teams from all countries. So there would have to be a similar decline in any country part of the Mill Series.

If Europe is anything like the States in terms of the market, it always takes a down turn in July & August. There are simply less people playing then. The appropriate strategy might be to schedule the event during these months, somewhere where you know the player base is still active. I think the PSP is suffering some the same thing with only 40 5man and 50ish Xball teams signed up for Omaha.

What would the turnout be like if this was the first event of the season?

Remember, mainland Europe traditionally uses August as its holiday season. Try France in August - no-one works, everyone holidays.

Its a cultural thing - in the UK anyone with family takes off as soon as the schools break - its no coincidence that last weekend was the first weekend of the school holidays.

Change in date was definitely the big one, I almost would have missed it if I hadn't decided to check the date, lol. I was however only a spectator but next year my team intend on entering just for the CC.

i play for Fe we came third Div 2, and as much money as i spent, as much time as we wasted sitting around waiting to play, getting wet, sweaty, smelly and tired it was all worth it have that kind of experiance behind me and behind us as a team,
I realised it was all worth it the second i worked onto the CPL feild infront of all those people to play off for 3rd place, thats when it became worth it, thats when every penny id spent, all the effort i had put, all the effort we had put in, thats when it became worth it. and if foreigners can afford to come over here and do that then im sure next year we can all put a little more effort in fill out the divisions.

Just a personal note...CC M5 was a great learning experience.

I've only been playing for 5 months and we walked on with 3 regulars (regular practice attendees) and 2 guests, who we'd never met, expecting to get drilled on Saturday. By the end of the day we were 5th (i think...but don't quote me) and we were sure we could beat anyone.

Now I know there'll be a lot of "well its always fun when you're winning" thinkers...but come Sunday we did get drilled...not a single point all day.

BUT - Sunday was a hell of a lot of fun and I learned more in those 5 games against the better teams than I have in any practice. There's nothing like getting your butt handed to you over and over to help you work on your flaws.

So my point is...any team thinking about spending the money for more practice sessions - as a relative newbie, tournaments are the best practice you'll get!

We got our asses handed to us on both days. Saturday we were put against so pretty tough teams including Budha Bandits and Firestorm.. Sunday we played a bit better but just got 1-4-1s in 3 mathces completely crippled us. They were fair calls though and I thought the reffing was quite good.

Entirely agree with ya... we are a new team (Mayhem Knights) and this was our first tourney.. we expected to get wupped, and after a draw and a win as our first games Saturday, morale was high... then we got served in our last 3 games for saturday

but we got up sunday morning, shook it off, and went to play ball... 4 consecutive wins and a bye as our last game later and we were playing the finals in group C of the M5

i guess what im trying to say is, we got served a lot on saturday, but it taught us as much, if not more than a lot of our training sessions did... new teams should come along to CC next year and show the rest of Europe what we are made of

Thing is, this causes problems all the way up the paintball food chain, cause the Lower division teams are the ones who buy product at the event, keeping the sponsors in business, and basically providing the income that the paintball economy survives on.


It's not limited to the UK either, IMHO paintball seems to have had more than it's fair share of players quit/ retire, this season.
