Lovetone hit the nail on the head. The Millennium for most teams playing in the M5 league represents poor value for money and lets be honest the outlay for most teams is quite considerable, accommodation, travel, food etc, everything in this country is very expensive compared to most other European countries.
I would also agree that the organisation, over the last few years it has been disappointing. Cristal Palace was a very poor venue...no security until it was too late and even then!?!, M5 Field fencing was just plane dangerous and how no one was seriously injured was simply a miracle.. in fact most of the fencing was quite poor.

I love major tournaments but the UK leg of the Millennium always seems poor compared to the NPPL, PSP and other Millenniums I've been to.

Personally, I would love to play the Milleniums but cost is such a serious factor. The M5 entry fee + paint + accomadation + food and petrol is steep.

I am a student so obviously have limited finances but this problem is felt by quite a few of my older team mates who just cant make such a financial investment.

Furthermore, there have been questions raised about value for money and poor Mill organisation which again will put people off.

I do believe however, that many UK teams do want to play but the cost is so high that many choose not to attend.

From my, and my teams experiance, we have a number of our younger players at campaign this weekend as the older guys are saving the money for the overseas legs which the younger guys can not make (school, money, etc). The younger guys will only do the one leg, the older guys will play 2 or 3 each of the overseas legs.

Point being........

If your going to drop several hundred notes on an event, you might as well go overseas and do it cos at least you feel like you'vr got value. NOT from ther PB, 8 games for the total cost is appauling, but at least yo've been on a 'trip' when you do the euro legs. (Boys road trip !)

Compare that with spending roughly the same wedge in the UK (And it does amount to close to the same due to more expensive hotels, food, etc) ? Unless its a big deal, like for the jounger guys, sorry, I can't justify it !

But thats for an experianced team who enter most events. As for the guys comming up through, well for the cost of CC you can do half a season of local events !! Theres just not enough incentive to make the step. You get no recognition from the mags (your better off going to the XPSL / CFOA !!), negligable chance of winning, and **** food ! Is it just a UK thing ? posibly, but it may be cause were just sick of being ripped off ! Cd's DVD's Petrol Paintball........

the wildcats couldnt put in a team, due to the date change and the prohibitive cost, most of our young-uns have just finished there gcse's/degrees and have been unable to work due to the study.

the older guys have kids, work, injuries, holidays, and PA and masters to play and pay for.

i am not making excuses for my guys, they have legitimate reasons for not playing it, and i firmly beleive qualifications greatly outway 1 event.

i am sure we are not the only team out there with reasons, for not attending.

i should, however, be putting a team in the next uk one, if we get one......

when resources are low, you have to think about the best use of them.
When you are a student that works part-time, money is definately a resource that is limited.
I look to the long term, campaign cup realistically would have cost me hundreds of pounds to play, so which is better for my game in the long run campaign or training 8+ times? (similiar costs)

*i am still spectating at campaign though.

totally agree with what Lovetone says.

Millennium is way too expensive.

we played all events last year but only could afford it because we ended up as at least a team which got a cheque at the end of the tourney so we could pay the entry fee for the coming event.
this season we lost a lot of good players and the rest can´t afford to play.
as easy as it is...we now focus on regional tournaments and the (german) paintball league.

Talking about netting, there were alot of balls flying into the "safe areas" today from all the fields, I got a few in the legs and my friend got one about a cm from his right eye.
