Right first off I wasn't at the Masters at the weekend. I was at Donington enjoying the best weekend of my life without a doubt. BUT, I do feel I am more than qualified and experienced enough to add my opinion to this thread. If you are live at the end of the game and put your sock on the end of your barrel, so be it. It is a safety thing for f*ck's sake and I for one am not gonna eliminate you for it, so when all is said and done it is a load of Millenium bollocks. Having said that, every single time I have reffed, and my fellow UK Refs can and will back me upon this, we get asked if players can sock up, switch off or whatever to make their gats safe. As for an accident on field when a game is taking place, ew UK Refs insist on simply shouting as loud as we can for all live players to put their guns down on the ground at the bunker where they are, while the accident or whatever is dealt with as quickly as possible so that when play is resumed, everyone is back in their original position. SEE, EASY ISN'T IT?!!

Regarding the "rule" that once a marker has been socked up then it cannot be checked for cheat modes, allbeit by the chrono ref only, then again I say on record, what a load of sh!t. If a ref is suspicious of a gun being naughty, then he or she IS permitted to check it out and if it is found to be firing illegal modes, then appropriate penalties will be applied.

Stickers on hoppers is another thread and subject altogether, so why even bring it up on this thread?

At the end of the day, as a ref, you are responsible for the safety of the players, yourself and your fellow refs, and the spectators on the safe side of the netting. So to eliminate a player just for putting their barrel sock on when they are live, basically makes you a bit of an arse and very pedantic. I have posted elsewhere this is the problem with the Millenium rules, there is no room for common sense, just "this is our rules and you must apply them as they are in the rulebook". Well if it was a perfect world then we wouldn't need a rulebook, but it aint, and human nature dictates that we SHOULD apply a little comon sense. Come on guys, don't end up like Millenium ref robots.
i totally agree we should in a perfect world be able to use common sense, but it isnt the easiest job in the world getting refs for tounraments, and the majority of months at the uk masters there are very inexperienced refs on fields. Some of these guys struggle to even make a correct elimation sometimes so how can they use common sense on something they dont know about. This doesnt apply to everyone but there is every month some.

You cant really turn round to your experienced refs and say guys use your own judgement and common sense because we know you can ref, then to the other guys and say stick to the rule book. there would be too many inconsistencies in my opinion.

I would love it if every month at the masters, pa, nspl, or any other series it was the same refs month in month out who have had a lot of playing and reffing time i just cant see this happening. There are some who love reffing like yourself and me but not everyone does and this is where it lies there isnt enough quality refs in the uk who are willing to ref enough tournaments.

I did explain at the time what the elimination was for after he asked, and if the player had listened to me and gone to the the dead box when I asked him to I wouldnt of 1-4-'d him and he should know better i hold a lot of respect for this player.

Jon
No problem with you at all Jon you did very well and he should have left the field as soon as you told him.

That seems even sillier than the rule stopping you from socking up in the first place!

Soo...your not allowed to sock up your gat to make it safe. Then if you do, you lose a player or points. If a marshall then suspects that you have a cheater gun/bouncy gun he then wouldn't be allowed to remove the sock and check it? So technically if a marshall comes to check your gat just sock it up and your in the clear? That can't be right, it all seems rather ludicrous I tell ya!  :D :p

Exactly,

Walk into masters with uncapped full auto and if they try anything, sock up and your untouchable!

Who knew it was that easy?

OY GIMP. Tell you what window licker, why not bring a naughty gat onto a field when I am reffing and try and tell me that I am not gonna check your gun just because you have socked up. If I have reason to believe that you are using a marker that is firing in a mode that is actually illegal in this country, thus also rendering that gun as a genuine threat to other players safety, then I do not give a tupenny f*ck what the rule is then you are not using it on my field, capiche Dingbat?

Come to think of it, if you WGP4Life or whatever knob name you are now hiding behind, stepped onto a field I was reffing on and tried to use a pea shooter, I'd take the f*cker off you. You are without doubt the biggest goon ever to grace any paintball forum, period.
