Right first off I wasn't at the Masters at the weekend. I was at Donington enjoying the best weekend of my life without a doubt. BUT, I do feel I am more than qualified and experienced enough to add my opinion to this thread. If you are live at the end of the game and put your sock on the end of your barrel, so be it. It is a safety thing for f*ck's sake and I for one am not gonna eliminate you for it, so when all is said and done it is a load of Millenium bollocks. Having said that, every single time I have reffed, and my fellow UK Refs can and will back me upon this, we get asked if players can sock up, switch off or whatever to make their gats safe. As for an accident on field when a game is taking place, ew UK Refs insist on simply shouting as loud as we can for all live players to put their guns down on the ground at the bunker where they are, while the accident or whatever is dealt with as quickly as possible so that when play is resumed, everyone is back in their original position. SEE, EASY ISN'T IT?!!
Regarding the "rule" that once a marker has been socked up then it cannot be checked for cheat modes, allbeit by the chrono ref only, then again I say on record, what a load of sh!t. If a ref is suspicious of a gun being naughty, then he or she IS permitted to check it out and if it is found to be firing illegal modes, then appropriate penalties will be applied.
Stickers on hoppers is another thread and subject altogether, so why even bring it up on this thread?
At the end of the day, as a ref, you are responsible for the safety of the players, yourself and your fellow refs, and the spectators on the safe side of the netting. So to eliminate a player just for putting their barrel sock on when they are live, basically makes you a bit of an arse and very pedantic. I have posted elsewhere this is the problem with the Millenium rules, there is no room for common sense, just "this is our rules and you must apply them as they are in the rulebook". Well if it was a perfect world then we wouldn't need a rulebook, but it aint, and human nature dictates that we SHOULD apply a little comon sense. Come on guys, don't end up like Millenium ref robots.
