I attended a paintball day yesterday at campaign, and although we all had a really great day, i found the site guns pretty crap, in one game alone had to swap guns 5 times as they kept jamming, spitting out 3 balls at same time, and very, very innacuate (couldnt hit a target 10 meters away)

What i want to know is, if i picked up for instance an ion or other entry level marker, what improvements would i see? think some of the site gones were inferno??

Im just after a marker i can use a 2/3 times a year and is relatively cheap, but must be a big impprovement over the site ones!

2) would they allow ions to be used?
3) can u problem solve an ion or know someone who could?
4) wat made u think 'ion'?

few answers for you ;) sorry your getting bored fella!

1> i believe the site yesterday had air.
2> would need to check, but marshall suggested ions so should be ok.
3> at present no, reckon ill have lots of problems then?
4> I know there has been lots of debate over ions, and have read most of it, but just want something fairly cheap, and is an improvement over the site guns. I wont be using it for any tournaments, just a few days out in the woods.

Ion was just an example, would consider any cheap gun if its gonna be an improvement, just couldnt pay £300/£400/£500 and use it just a few times a year. Would prob like to spend £250 for a complete package, any other suggestions evo??

there are many pros and cons of many markers. ions are no different, specially when it comes to using them on rec-sites.

an ion can shoot up to 15bps on semi auto whilst infernos and most other mechanical site markers will shoot 4 or 5 a second? u will have a MASSIVE advantage over everyone else playing, paint bills will increase cause you will be shooting more, ions run on air (even tho smart parts say they can run on co2) its definately not recommended by anyone on these forums. causes nuffin but problems. u would be paying about £140ish for an ion which you would be using 3 or 4 times a year so the rest of the time it will be sitting in a cupboard or kitbag? if the site uses co2 then ur screwed? a simple gravity fed hopper would be unsufficient so would be spending another sum of money on a electronic one, air bottle is another £60ish new? you say the marshal recommended an ion but did/she say it would be fine to be used on customer days?? alot of sites i go to dont like people shooting tourny level markers at people with pretty poorly maintained £50 markers. might i suggest something more on the recball level, perhaps a tippmann or piranha, viewloader or spyder. something none electronic which would run on air or co2 and which wouldnt up your advantage that much that people would start moaning to the field refs when u light them up.

try www.justpaintball.co.uk and look at some of the none electronic markers, easier to maintain and cheaper to fix also. no point spending a shed load of cash (unless ur loaded) for something ur gonna use 4 or 5 times a year. tippmann are rock solid and would survive a nuclear fallout. ask in the WANTED section to see if anyone has one second hand, would only need a co2 bottle or air bottle then a simple gravity hopper (£5) would be sufficient.

- dunno how much of that made sense or helped. kinda went off on a rant :X

try looking for a second hand (or even new) Tippmann A5,

they are mechanical gats, but you can upgrade them to have a double trigger, so it fires faster (walking the trigger) for only a few pounds, ir a whole host of more expensive upgrades, one of whice makes it fire electronically, which has a range of firing modes.

its metal, and very hard wearing you can treat it like crap and not care unlike ions, which are plastic.
they are also easy to maintain as they are mechanical gats, therefore you need to know nothing abou electronics, or mess with electronics to clean and maintain it.

Comes with its own hopper, so you dont need to spend £30-£120 getting another hopper,

add a flatline barrel and you'll be firing far furthur than anyone else on the field. and straighter....

You can run a tippmann off practically anything. farts if you could bottle them.. so CO2 wouldnt be as much of a problem as it would with an ion.

But be warned, with a tippmann, they are perfect for playing around with you mates on a punter day. you'll be the envy of all of them, and you'll have a fffaaarrr better marker.
But if you wantto get into paintball seriously and want to play recball or supair.
You'll want to sell it straight away. becasue compared to an ion, shocker, ego their rate of fire is pathetic. (unless you go for all the upgrades)

Quick Note: Campaign won't allow you to use an Ion on a regular day. But you could use it for a walkon day with all the other walkon's. They will allow you to use a Piranha R6 on a regular day though I found.

Just make sure that Alan 'Beard' or one of the other Marshall's there chrono's it and checks it as site safe.

RE Kill Crazy comment

Why do people moan about the ION being made of plastic?

1- the Plastic is EXTERNAL
2- Its tougher than most metals (resiliant to rust)
3- Lighter

Do you have an ION? I see it all the time and its such a pointless comment.

never had an ion, but my mates have had them. and in my opinion, it being plastic DOES matter. and it may be resilient. but its not going to be anywhere near as reilient as a tippmann A5, or an ego.

and your right, plastic doesnt rust. well done.
but neither does aluminum. which is what an A5 is made of. ;)

Not sure where to start with this. This thread has turned from a very good questions and answer thread about the best marker to use on a punter site, and possibly is about to turn into a full blown Ion flaming thread.

Ok.. Ion's... they are a cheap entry level marker. They are not ego's, or A1's or whatever, but treated with love and care, and importantly not fiddled with all the time will fire 15bps consistently. If you up and up them they will go faster, feel better to use, and be easier to maintain. Maybe though the money spent on up's might be better saved and spent on a better marker, but each to their own. I have a very up'd Ion and I like it for what I use it for which is playing paintball and shooting people. Plastic... aint it just the body which slips over the breech?

As for Lost?, my tuppences worth is that if he wants to go the local site as a punter but with his own marker, he gets something that at least is comparable to the site guns such as Tippman 98 or something like that.

As it happens, I have a well used but working Tippman 98, gravity fed hopper, Co2 bottle, and a pack for sale and not for stupid money niether. £50 all in if he wants it. If Lost? is interested, PM me.
