What is this problem with Glastonbury everyone keeps on about???
If that is the reason there were no showers or toilets left in the country then I think someone is using one hell of a stupid excuse!

Perhaps that was the reason there were no companys with outside licence facilities around London as well. They all went on holiday to Glastonbury?

As for the what someone said about HG being a Campaign Lite, well yes it is. It is always being said that the NSPL is trying to keep up with Milleniums. Personally as well I have always enjoyed HG the same as Campaign.

Stop making excuses and look at what people are saying

I hear what you're saying Nige, but my point about HG being "campaign lite" was simply that if you went into the tournament with that opinion, then I can understand why people would be upset, but that I personally didnt have a problem with it, as I had an open mind, expecting something like a normal event. Thats all :)

The point about the NSPL trying to keep up with Millennium I think is valid; the NSPL IS keeping up with the millenniums more than any other series: they were the first to use the MS field plans routinely and adopt Millennium ramping across the board as well as following the MS rulebook. As far as I can see, the main respect in which the NSPL is not keeping up with the MS is in terms of price ;)

I also want to point out that I have no affiliation with the NSPL whatsoever, I simply don't think the event was as big a disaster as some people are making out. Nige, you're entitled to your grievances and you've got some very fair points, particularly the ones about showers and toilets, those issues certainly need to be remedied before next year's event.

Not a dig at you mate but I have played the last 2 HGs and spectated the one before that and all 3 of them were fantastic events. People do look at HG to be the NSPL Campaign.
Like I asked my nephew to post in a thread on the NSPL, it was just a get together in a field. It is not an insult nor are any of the other things I have said but this should of been something special as we expect when we have to pay more money. The thing with previous HGs like I have said to everyone I spoke to yesterday, its not just about the paintball. We can go anywhere and play that. HG is also about having Bournemouth Sports Club as a venue and the weekend it creates.
We can play any Reading round and have a good day but that costs less money and doesnt have broken promises
I think the main problem and ammo people have with this issue is they were promised stuff that didnt arise. That is all that will stick in peoples minds if they want something to gripe about. In my experience, DONT promise if you CANT deliver. Secure things first.
Like I said, Lets look forward to next year.

it might just be the fact that i'm blinded by 2 days of awesome paintball as both a Pompey Uni boy and gunner for Relentless i feel i might be shying away from most of the major issues that have been voiced.

Personally, i thought the marshals did really well, anyone willing to help Syd out by being on the fields gets my respect, but i cant help but feel this is being played up. yes, it needs to be consistent, but as you get more people marshalling one or two events, you get new people learning and things can only improve.

my two minor gripes as with all of you who are most likely highlighting this because you were wronged somehow by the black and white striped army on field were that we got 141'd for a non-self check area and that we got a draw as our last player stepped over a non-visible boundary, but at the end of the day guys, get over it - i have and those are two pretty debatable points.

the shower block isnt an issue for me, maybe its the fact i'm used to camping and roughing it for a few days or the fact that if there were showers, i probably wouldnt have had one anyway cause of the likely queue - but its just an unfortunate thing that happened, however i appreciate other people's contention over this point.

this was my first HG and yes the toilets were an issue, people wanted showers, marshals made dodgy decisions and whatever else you want to have your moan about, but at the end of the day, if you're anything like myself, you were just there to play and would make do with most things, provided you got the opportunity, to step out on that field and do what you enjoy. as far as i'm concerned, things can only get better :D

I don't mean to pick on you personally by any means mate, but the 141 rule (as is pointed out after almost every event it seems) is not a penalty for playing on as such.

It is a measure to redress the inbalance in the game created by the marked player remaining in the game after he had been eliminated. As such, hit location is irrelevent, as the self check zone no longer affects this rule.

This basically means that if a marshall finds a hit on you that he didnt see occur, then you're going to get 141'd (if the marshall is doing things by the book; if anything I'd say that the refs were too leniant on the whole and issue should be taken with those who WEREN'T giving 141s for offences like that.)

cheers for clarifying that mate, i didn't fully explain what i meant but thats useful to know by all means.

In the context of my original post, it was a highlight of not enough marshals on field during games. i cant help but feel if there were the normal 8 on field as there have usually been that hit would have a better chance of being noticed or the opposition calling it would have been heard and a better game could have been played with 4 of our guys on the field as opposed to 3. but as i also said in my first post, i'm over it now. (not saying i was yesterday :p)

*edit* i wasn't arguing the reason for the call but how things would have been different

It's so tempting to unload an essay-esque post about the marshalling but I think I'll try and keep it short and sweet. I'm also going back to re-word what I posted earlier because re-reading it I felt like I was being unnecessarily harsh.

The marshalling was limited in its quality and consitency, but dont blame the marshalls! We did as much as we could but as said above, we're only human and can't be everywhere at once. I was on field 3 and we were able to have an in-field marshall for saturday afternoon only, and then the assistance of Quake marshalls for the finals. I had a much better time when we had Quake with us because we could actually cover the field!

I don't take any of the marshalling criticism personally, I know how it is from both sides and I think the people who have actually marshalled for themselves know the score. At the end of the day, experienced marshalls don't pop out of thin air. Apparently 4 couldn't make it (Pinki was one of them and I was gutted to hear that, get well soon Pinki!) but what do you want us to do? Play from dusk til dawn on 2 fields, cancel the event? Syd and the marshalls had to get on with what we had. And exactly like in Magic_8ball's post: we couldn't see everything at once, so had to 1-4-1 in order to make it fair, players were playing on, we tried to be consistent but I can't speak for the other fields, I can't speak for other fields, but I can see why people are upset about the inconsitency between or within fields, there just weren't enough marshalls to make it work.

I honestly don't know what the NSPLs are like for marshalling normally, I understand Quake have commited to working the series? Where were Syd's factory team, or any other team? I dont mean to bite the hand that fed me, but either no one wanted to marshall or not enough effort was put into recruiting or attracting experienced refs. I probably would've been playing if I could've afforded it, so maybe there's the problem right there? The fact remains that even with the above 4 marshalls, we would still have been thinly spread.

I still had a good time, even if I feel like a wreck today, great to see old faces and meet new ones (sEXLife: I met you guys, for about 10 minutes and you left such a glowing impression, I'll deff be keeping an eye out for you!) but compared to what HG has been in the past this was nowhere near the same. Bournemouth next year?
