How can you have only have read one book? I'd read the entire Chronicles of Narnia by the age of 9. Parents should force their kids to read in my opinion....
Anyway, the Iain Banks' Wasp Factory is one of my favourite books, brilliant atmospheric affair. Dan Brown is quite entertaining but has sparked a whole religious genre that I'm a bit sick of now. I've read a few books by other authors now that are pretty similar. Peter Kay's autobiography was suprisingly good as well.

If you want an absolutely brainless read, but still want to be entertained, find a book called "Seven Ancient Wonders" by Matthew Reilly. Absolutely ridiculous, but very entertaining.

try 'Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman'
An excellent novel, one of my favorite books and a great read which I couldn't put down.

Any of Bill Brysons books are good though the ones on the english language are a bit dry (but fascinating none the less) would especially recommend his short history of nearly everything and his latest book the thunderbolt kid (his childhood autobiography and it is absolutely hilarious)
If intrested in crime novels I'm currently reading through the rebus novels by Ian Rankin, extremly gripping novels with some interesting commentary on modern society.

Or if you want something a bit more dense and thoughtprovoking try any of Jared Diamends ooks (especially guns germs and steel and collapse in that order) truly fascinating novels and will put many of the stories you see in the news a wider context and meaning

and lw2309 then maybe don't leave it up to the school try reading at home.

I do... but if you had to read books at school then write essays about them, even though you weren't interested in the book in the first place, then reading gets kinda boring...
