the way i see it there are other variables that are more influential in making one side win, as in tactical commands, equipment e.t.c but at the end of the day, the amount of players is a variable, and therefore will affect the result.

I have statistics from all our games since 1998 (10 Big Paintball Maneuvers games, 12 River Crossing games plus 5 other games, all from 300+ players to 1000 players).
Each time there was a 5-10% disbalance but bigger side won not all games but 17 out of 27 (62%).

Size doesn't matter :D

Statistics mean nothing if manipulated and / or presented in an inappropriate manner and I'm afraid you are doing one of either if you feel that your statement implies anything meaningful.

As for 'tactical command' mentioned by Jaamie, there is none, or rather none of any real relevance or practical value.
One of the areas tourney players (pros) will ascend is in the area of understanding; with training and development of individuals (technical development) and an understanding of team dynamics being integral factors.

There is no such attendant understanding that I could perceive in recball.
Talk of 'who wins or who loses' is academic here (other than bragging rights on a Monday morning) because this is not the reason rec ball is played, nor should it be.
This may sound like a trite cliché but 'everybody wins' because the reason for playing rec is to have fun and so in that sense, there are no losers.

If you find yourself bleating on about (in any serious sense) about who wins or loses then you really need to put down your M16 lookalike, call over a medic and ask him/her to insert a chill pill ... I'll let you guess where :)

100 acres? 200? 300?
it was probably around the 40 - 70 mark of actual playing area.

as for more players = more to shoot at thats true to some part but while we are on equations.

80x(average bps, being about 10bps) means that there could be a extra 800 paint in the air and during the big battles like cape town that could possibly make all the difference.

not being sore loser me and my other 20 or so guys had a wicked day of chasing oranges until we found the northern nest then being seriously outnumbered.

see you all next year i hope i will be bring a hell of alot more players ;)

does anyone know of any would be south players who played for the north purely to be on the winning side?

i heard of quite a few north players playing for the south to even it up a bit.
maybe the boundary should be moved?
where is the boundary btw?

so the north had 80 more players - a 20% advantage ... I thought there seemed like lots more of them on the day ... and it seems I was right [other than at lunch time where lots of the northerners disappeared off to eat pies or dripping or something similar...]

I completley agree there, these big games are about fun, you can't really take them seriously, 500 a side, it's obvious it isn't competative, if your being a sore looser about it and moaning that the side you were playing for didnt win, don't play big games!

the team with the most players wins....
However i do not agree on that, my team have gone into many games outnumberd 3/1 and still come out on top! the North did have many top Scenario teams on their side, these teams when they all work together prove difficult to beat even with large amounts of numbers! and when some of these teams combined (which did happen) over the course of the day, it gave everyone else a boost of confidence, with a big charge of many good scenario teams and highly confident players behind them, the opposing side would quickly fall! Besides, it was n't a big scrap in one area all day, there was different size groups all over the large playing area, and with the scenario teams having a better idea what to do in situations, it meant the north came out on top of many battles! yes the north had another 80 or so, but team of 20 working together like a team could easy hold off 3/1 odds!

And after reading things about you robbo (in PGi), you'd know that being outnumbered doesn't nessaserily mean anything

MY little rant!
