Short CP Reg dis-assembly

I have a short CP reg and understand that you can unscrew it into three sections. I can unscrew the bottom from the top/mid section, but cannot unscrew the top from the mid.

I beleive it is just screwed on really really tightly, but despite being reasonably strong just cannot get them to unscrew.

Please help as it desperately needs a service and want to get it sorted before the big game.

Any tips gratefully received.

Speak to the LPS guys, or just send it to them and get them to service it

Holding one side in the vice whilst applying pressure on the other side with a strap wrench can work quite well, just make sure to wrap the vice side in a towel (or similiar) to prevent damage.

Heating up the seal (i.e. with hot water) can also help to loosen up whatever is holding it together. I've had the same problem with a couple of Hyper2 regs.

I'm happy to service the reg myself, it's just getting these two parts... apart!!

I havent currently got access to a vice or a strap wrench, but I'll give the hot water thing a go though. Thanks Will.

stripped a cp the other night and my problem was the other end!
grips and force did the job.
the actual strip and clean is a piece of cake. there are instructions on the custom products website which are phot illustrated and dead easy to follow.

I've got the instructions, it's just parting the two bloody things!!!

I'm gonna try the hot water thing, as I think the o-rings provide a really tight seal, which aint a bad thing....

Yeah, it's often that regs and such simply haven't been dismantled in so long that the segments of the body bind together really tightly and need a lot of (brute) force to separate.

I had the exact same problem, used two strap wrench's but it was still awkward. they kept slipping so i wrapped sellotape around each segment and that gave it the grip.

bloody frustrating though!

if you're going to use a vice or grips make sure you use lots of padding, it'll ruin the finish otherwise.

Ok.. done it.... went to a generic car parts type shop and bought a strap wrench double pack for £6.99, then got some rough masking tape and applied it to both sections, then had it apart in about 10 seconds.

The lube inside was a bit solid, so I'm hoping this will account for the 'hot' first shot, and the +/-5 fps on the chrono. What really made me get into gear and service it, was when adjusted to about 140psi for 290fps, one time it jumped to 220psi and made the Ion lock. Not good.

All lubed and juicy now.

A hot first shot may be down to the board. On PM/DM's there is an ABS (anti bolt stick) setting which, when activated, causes your first shot after 15s to have an increased dwell which can lead to an increased velocity.

With it being reasonably decent weather now, you aren't likely to experience bolt stick providing you keep the bolt well lubed, so it can be turned off to reduce the risk of spikes.
