Ion Progress Thread - Pg2 T Board Help ???

A lucky stage 2 & 3 with either the Lucky stage 1 or an equivalent aftermarket firing bolt will increase efficiency and decrease cycle time. Coupled with a QEV your Ion becomes very very efficient and consistent over the chrono.

QEV's - We had a bit of a debate previously about the effect of a QEV on paint. It would seem the faster action of the firing bolt caused by the quicker air dump through the QEV caused the Ion to be harder on paint. It was discussed the lucky stages reduce this effect, however, although a lot of conclusions were offered up, not sure we got it 100% confirmed one way or the other.
I think you will find that John C has a fairly good knowledge of lucky products:)

Not disputing either of you..........

.............But would be good if John C could elaborate on his comment?

yeah,i already have a 360qev and firebolt, not long had lucky stage 2+3,just changed to a clippard qev after 360 letting me down again:( ,was just wondering if it would really make that much of a diffrence having one over not?ive never really had any problems with breaking paint only really when using a bad batch of paint.supose really it depends on what paint you use in the end.

Well, I went on sunday, was the first time since I had everything fitted (apart from the T Board) & I never got a break, through-out the whole day, was amazed!

Well worth the money I spent.

This whole subject has been covered extensively in the techroom.

The difference they make is not 100% positive as people like to make out.

The QEV reduces cycle time by venting the air in front of the bolt quicker, allowing the bolt to come forward faster and with more force.

The advantage of a faster moving bolt is that there is less wasted air due to a lower cycling time (although investing in a bolt that seals properly while forward will help cure the problem rather than the symptom).

The disadvantage of a QEV is that your bolt comes forward alot harder, so it hits your paint alot harder, and hits the bumper orings alot harder.

I always try to advise against people putting QEVs on their ions because in my opinion the losses outweigh the gains.
However if you have one already, and you dont have a problem then there isnt much point in taking it off.

With all that said, if you must buy a QEV, get it from Lucky and tell em John C recommended it to ya LOL :D :D :D ;)

Q: Will my gun shoot faster with an aftermarket bolt?
A: No, this is a massively common misconception but is NOT TRUE. The bolt speed is determined solely by the venting of the air holding it open. The bolt's weight has no practical bearing on ow fast it moves inside an Ion.

not the same question but gives the same answer.

Yeah,

Thats what I thought, with the bolt that Oily modified for me (cheers buddy) its a lot lighter than stock & cos its lighter thought that it would not come forward with as much force as the stock, not chopping my paint.

Yeah just taking some mass off wont make it lighter on paint.

But you could argue that increasing the volume inside the bolt allows you to use a lower pressure which as long as the key surface areas remain the same will make your gun marginally gentler on paint, at the expense of efficiency.

However massive gains can be made by redesigning the way the bolt works, allowing you to increase operating pressure (and get all the benefits associated with that) while making your gun more gentle on paint.

slightly off topic, but if you are looking rid of the cp trigger, drop me a pm with how much you want for it.

I bought an Ion for a laugh and a tinker with, have bought a lot of upgrade parts and fitted some for something to do in the evenings.

I normally shoot the 07 ego, but John C sorted my Ion for me and I am looking forward to getting a rip on it, in a perverse kind of way. It will never replace my Ego, but always good for a cheap emergency backup!!
