Technically the correct o-ring should be used for it's designated purpose. But this o-ring's purpose is stop air that's leaving the bottle leaking down the bottle threads, and out of the back of the asa.

I can see his frustration about the larger o-ring making it difficult to remove the bottle, but in no way would it cause a build up of pressure and make a fitting explode. A more likely problem would be the o-ring could leave shaved parts of rubber in the asa that could enter the gun.

If he's had experience of fittings exploding, it's more likely to be the fact that the standard fittings used on paintball guns have a working pressure of 250psi, and have a hard job passing 850psi (hp reg) without exploding.:)

Not one i'd heard of, I remember the issue with the bottle where it was rumoured someone had used oil and it caused a bottle to explode, but there was much debate and didn't actually hear of a death...

Also are you sure on that point, I was led to understand that the reg length and neatly positioned O-ring on the inside part of the reg cause it to be virtually impossible to unscrew the reg from bottle when full and cause the air to vent way before there's any danger from anythhing ballistic happening...though i'm no Airsmith, Tom?

Having had a FULL 3000psi metal bottle start to unscrew from a centreflag reg that was stuck in a duckbill on my old impulse - yes it is possible.

i think what pump+splat meant is,due to the length of the thread on a hpa reg you would notice the air leaking(very loud hissing ;) ) long before the reg thread left the bottle neck:cool:

Not all, but most air regs have a vent hole about a third of the way down the thread from the o-ring. This vents hp air before the bottle can unscrew enough to cause a danger.
CO2 valves don't have this feature.
