ion upgrades

Ion up's

Must haves are....

Q-lock feedneck.
CP Oops.

Performance upgrades are (in order of importance)....

SP Firebolt
SP 360 QEV
Freak barrel system (or similair)

Once you done that, you've made your Ion perform well and be ultra efficient with regards to air.

New boards are nice to have, but it's a lot of money for not really anything you can walk-on to playing field with.

Triggers, grips, body kits, are down to personal preference.

Actually, i've stumbled across the best upgrade for an Ion......It's called a Proto Matrix Rail! ;)

Seriously though, I would prioritise the following for your Ion:

1st - Trigger
2nd - ASA/Rail
3rd - Feedneck

The gun will run just fine without a QEV, but they do speed things up a little and help efficiency. Same could be said for the aftermarket bolts too.

Boards are handy for the tourney modes and settings, but if the gun is just gonna be used to shoot punters at your local site, i wouldn't bother.

I wouldn't prioritise a trigger as an immediate upgrade for an Ion. The stock one aint that bad!

If you want your Ion to cycle smoother and use about 30% less air in the process, get a QEV and firebolt. With these mods you will be able to allow the Ion to potentially exceed the stock capability of 17bps, but the stock boards caps you at 15bps anyhow, which is the max you are allowed on any playing field.

If you got loads of dosh indeed get the lucky stage 5.1. Your ion will change dramatically!

It's all about budget and what you are after really. My emphasis is on performance and efficiency rather than making my Ion look bling, which is reflected in my recomendations.

It's all down to personal preference and what your budget is really.

I disagree. I've had 2 Ions so far, got a mates one sat right here and on all three the trigger's were/are poor!

If you are serious about shooting your gun with any degree of speed ROF-wise then a new trigger is a necessity.

QEVs are fine, but not a priority IMHO, the gun will shoot just fine without one, the same could be said about bolts too.

The stock duckbill bottomline is uncomfortable for most, so that needs near-immediate replacement for some people.

A new clamping feedneck is handy, but the stock one will fit a number of loaders just fine.

Personally, I wouldn't go much further upgrading an Ion, you can buy superior guns for the same cost in the long run. I say do the basics, get it rolling, get playing with it, save the cash and move up the marker ladder.

But that's just me! :D

Thats what makes the world an exciting place, the difference in opinion. I think we at least at the same chapter speedbird_666, just not maybe on the same page. :)

If will_d is new to this and on a limited budget, i think making the Ion more practical to use (on/off or Oops, clamping feedneck, etc), is the first best step forward. I've seen recomendations on here where some put a new grip cover, body kit, and aftermarket board over a clamping feedneck for example, and this can lead inexperienced people up the garden path a bit if you get my drift.

The good thing about an Ion, is that you can gradually add bits to it over time, if thats what your budget allows. A person with immense willpower will get the basics on the Ion to make it work nicely, then save their pennies to eventually get a higher end marker. Thats not me unfortunately :D

When was the last time you had to strip and rebuild the solenoid - because it was full of crap that a QEV can help take care of?

A QEV is a priority - as anyone who has one fitted. Yes the marker will work without one - then again - it'll work as stock - otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell it!

That wasn't the original question .

As an ION owner - and the repairer of many - fit a QEV first. Get some new detents (the stock don't last long) then maybe a bolt (doesn't have to be a firebolt btw).

Things like trigger, asa (duck bill), grips, feedneck are more a cosmetic thing.

The rest is down to cost of course. Have a look at http://www.p8ntballer-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=75609 to see how far you can go :).
