Right, but for the same amount of work, they could just run their own damned league. Trust me, you're talking to the only guy who actually runs a nationwide, representative organization of paintball teams. Once you put together an organization of teams with a leader, you might as well just run the damned league yourself. See: NPPL in 2002.Bottom line, there is potential for a players org that could have a meaningful place in the MS without a tremendous amount of work--despite the Chi-town pronouncement.
And I'm not just talking about work by the organizers. I'm talking about work by the members. Even the members have to do work, even if it's just keeping track of what the organization is doing, voicing their concerns in an organized manner, and voting. That work is the difference between active members and apathy.
And for most paintball players, the benefits they'd get from an organization are simply not worth the work of being a member. What is this organization going to do? Lower my entry fees by $20/event? I'll pay the $20 to not have to deal with it.
Player's unions in other sports are just another type of worker's union. Paintball teams are CUSTOMERS, not WORKERS. In sports where the customers have an organization, that organization actually runs the events themselves. Otherwise, you don't need an organization - people will just vote with their wallets. It's easier.
