burst disk blown on pmi tank

hey,

just got my tank back from being filled when the guy said one of the burst disks have went.......... he said it was just lying there after the fill and the disk blew and all the air vented but im thinking the disk must have been faulty as he said it blew when it was below the pressure it can handle so really this is 3 questions.

1. how do you spot a ruptured burst disk?
2. could it have been faulty?
3.what disks should i get cause on the reg the is a 7.5k disk and a 1.8k disk but as far as i know the 7.5k are for pmi regs and the 1.8k are for pro toyz regs?
any help with any of the questions will be greatly appreciated.

can be caused by dirt in the air system, the burst discs in the wrong places, or by a damaged burst disc.

or by an excess of pressure obviously.....................

9 times out of 10 it will be the 1.8k burst disc which needs replacing, you should have one of each on your reg.

not really a case of being faulty, and they are only a couple of quid each, I always keep a couple in my tool box.

so what disks would i use cause it doesnt seem like you can get 1.8k disks for pmi regs....only pro toyz. so would i just get a 5k one instead and swap them or is that dangerous?on the planet website the pro toyz ones are only for pro toyz regs and 7.5k disks are only on pmi regs and it says you can only use pmi discs on pmi regs

anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong, but i think they are a standard thread on the burst discs. DO NOT fit a 5k burst disc in place of a 1.8k.


if you are stuck for somewhere to get them, try Jon at LiPS as they keep them in stock most of the time.

ok cheers so how do you tell if a burst disk has ruptured. can you tell just from looking as if what i think is right then its my 7.5k disk that has ruptured.
can you tell by looking into the little hole above the threads? and if so should you be able to see right through? because on the 1.8k you can and on the 7.5k there is something blocking the way

i'm not 100% sure, but have you tried blowing into the little holes?

if in doubt spend a fiver and replace them both.

na ive not tried that because on the 1.8k disk you can see right through the hole and on the 7.5k disk you cant see through it because its got a little copper-looking thingy blocking the way could this be the part of the disk thats blown?

there will/would have been 2 burst discs one on the input the 7.5k/7500psi to burst if bottle is overfilled, & the 1.8k/1800psi on the output to burst if the reg fails/spikes & puts out too much pressure,if you can blow through it its burst & needs replacing,if when you replace it it blows again get the reg checked out by someone who knows what they are doing if you are not confident of doing it yourself.I would have thought the 5k ones will be the input on 3000psi bottles.

You say you can see through the 1.8k and not through the 7.5k. If you can see through the 1.8k, it may be that one that's gone. The copper bit you can see is the burst disc.
