It's worth what a rumour is worth for, but in pbdojo you can read this:
"Industry leaders are also reporting that the PSP has bought the failing NPPL. Pure Promotions has been struggling financially and WDP has been pumping obscene amounts of money into the league to keep it afloat. Rumor has it that the PSP will dissolve the NPPL and try to pass it off as a reunification."

If it is true does this mean x-ball in HB? No HB at all? Or just a unfunded rumour?

Even if this did happen then there is no way they would get rid of Hb would they that's got to be the biggest event of the year.....
I would definitely qualify that as rumor.
Is some of the basis for it legit? I believe so. There is--let's call it a faction--that would perhaps very likely do almost exactly that but last I heard it wasn't likely and there are elements that would probably still object. (Which, in this biz, means nearly nothing. ) (Nor of course am I in the loop but I ocassionally come within sniffing distance.:) )

As for HB being the biggest event? The most hyped. The most appealing. Perhaps. But not the biggest. Not even close. That remains WC.

I hadn't checked the numbers yet, but here's an interesting statistic for you:

Total rostered players at World Cup in 2005:

2454

Total rostered players at World Cup in 2006:

2933

which is a 20% increase. And nearly double the number of players at any other tournament on the planet. (Staff kicks it up to 3300ish)

As for a purchase of NPPL by PSP, my crystal ball says 'not likely'. Purchase of NPPL by someone else, more likely, but that would be far more likely to insure no reunification than increase the chances of it.
