get matches and tournaments on TV channels like Extreme sports that will get loads of promotion

I saw Extreme down at the Euro 5-man so they do know about paintball, they must get asked about putting it on their channel, or someone on here must know someone who maybe able to get it onto the channel, make it like ESPN and ESPN2 with coverage of different professional and amateur tournaments
now that u mention it mate - a guy i know edits for the extreme sports channel - seriously i'm not taking the piss - i'll get in touch with him see if he'll put the idea to some1 there

can't believe i didn't think of this myself

nice one, tell him that its a major professional sport if he doesnt know already, but its strange that Extreme are interested in paintball but do not show matches on their show but they do show kids touring around australia and usa (Oh yes they are the almighty 'Groms').

Personally I feel we could beat around the bush with loads of different ideas that may or may not promote paintball for a limited time and towards a limited audience but right now anything like that needs to be backed up.

To effectively promote the industry its gonna take someone with a rather large wallet to folk out on a continuous marketing campaign. TV ad's, weekly TV show, radio etc. Attacking every form of media available with a solid campaign promoting teams, tourneys whatever but doing it repeatedly. Peak time main
TV channels (i.e. Ch4, ITV) put a sly ad there. Toys, not plastic gat's that will inevitably take out some airhead but action figures, replica barricades etc. Trading cards, stickers, pogs/tazos, key chains.

Fact is in my opinion the only people who can make this sport bigger is the manufactures and in all honesty the day we see that happen is the day God comes down and rips it up on a field himself.

A spot on faking it, blue peter, the odd newspaper add will draw people in, but it will never be remembered.

yep that sounds like a major campaign alright, but how about doing whatever we can without the manufacturers? I think blue peter and faking it would really influence some of our target market - young kids and competetive/ open to new sports kind of people - at the moment these people have never heard of supair, so a one-off thing like that would be perfect wouldn't it?

People setting up at fairs and stuff is good, the next step has got to be conventions - the outdoors show for example, has things like practice climbing walls and water tanks for people to try out scuba diving, paintball has to be behind the times if all these extreme sports have realised it's potential. Delta force was the only paintball representation, and from what I hear, they're doing great business.

Whatever way you market Paintball you need to NOT keep pushing the competitive element to people. A lot of teenagers/young adults already have enough peer pressure on them without Paintball adding to it. It should be advertised as a fun extreme sport so young people are attracted to it and then they can build confidence and become team players. Its always going to be a hard enviroment to market as the sport can cost a lot of money. You could possibly run a sup-air advertising drive when its a Young Gunz day at your local site. Have a few of the Sup-Air players down there talking to the youngsters and showing them what its all about, you would just need people with kit and time to help out with this.

True, it's much better for kids than rock climbing in terms of development, it's just the kids who could be playing aren't because they don't even know paintball has teams and tourneys. People who want to play for fun will and people who want to compete will filter through, like I wouldn't enter a climbing competition, but I at least know they exist.

Marketing should see a big return on investment - the outdoors show for example gets about Fifty Thousand visitors. If just one company went down there, and offered a quick have a go game or say 5 guys take on a pro, how positive would that be for every site with a supair field?

I agree totally that it needs a bit more "in yer face" marketing at outdoor shows etc but the problem there would be the pubilc liability insurance. You know what its like nowadays with the where theres blame theres a claim mobs going about
