Not division, so much as I am suprised that Pete (of all people) has detailed a 'top 5' that does not include anyone from Pure Promotions. In fact the absence of a member of PP is almost as surprising as the inclusion of Chicago....

Missy, don't read too much into that selection as u seem to be doing at the moment because it is compiled with nothing more than personalities, and has nothing to with politics or companies or anything.

I also haven't got anybody from SPL, or Millennium...shall I go on?

I selected people not representatives !!

You guys have it all wrong.

Pete I'll give you, Sergey, Chicago, YB, and Baca 2 weeks in a conference room.

Missy you can have You, Bart, Ged, Jeff Stein, and whoever else you want the same two weeks in a pub.

I'll take me, Keely, and Camille and give us 1 week on a deserted tropical isle and we'd solve far more of my prob......I mean the tournaments scenes problems in half the time.

:D

edit - Missy, I thought about it - you have to take Travis, E-Rob, and LB with your group. They are all bright, experienced, and could be helpful. And I am adding Shawn to my group but cutting my time to 3 days. I don't think I'd last ....er I don't think we'd need any more time.

Depends what the 'group' is supposed to do. Reunification is definitely a Ged/Dave thing.

If you're talking about 'steering the sport', expecting someone from PP to be included is ... a statement of national tournament circuit ego. PP does one tiny thing, and PP is so absolutely not important to most of the sport it's not even funny. I can't agree with Pete's top-5 either; I'd pick Shawn Walker, Rob Stoddinger, Bill Mills, and 2 of the scenario game promoters.

That's the people you'd need to decide to get something done. To execute WHAT shoudl be done, Pete's group is more on the mark for that. You have to separate who is in a position of control (ability to cause action to happen) from who is qualified to decide what to do (experience in running sports and/or tournament leagues, depending) and those are not the same person.

Dave and Ged are smart guys and have a good bid of resources/influence, but they don't know much (comparatively) about running a sport. Making sporting equipment and running a sporting organization are not the same thing.

Chicago, there have been many 'Ged and Dave' sessions and all goes swimmingly well until.......well you guessed it, until others get involved and then it all goes tits up ......
Well, you'll note none of the people I picked beyond Ged/Dave own a paintball manufacturer/distributor. That's the key.

By far the best post in this thread and ironically, it makes the most sense :)

But enjoy your stay while you can Lane coz I am sure Missy will have hired
a mini sub and will be making its way over to your island, all in the interests of paintball you understand..........

I'm beginning to see some potential here. Oh, not in solving any of paintball's problems--get real. Nope, I'm seeing the big screen introduction of paintball to a mass media audience.
Here's the Hollywood-style Big Concept pitch: Gilligan's Island meets Austin Powers. Or maybe MYST meets It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World. (Might be one too many mads in there but it is paintball, after all.)
It's hot, yes? Imagine all the power players of paintball together on a mysterious island swept up in a life and death race to unravel the key to saving the planet amid the backdrop of a WC type event.

Pete, it has nothing to do with who I work for, it has nmore to do witrh what I know the guy is capable of, and what has already been acheived since '96. Thats all I am saying.

Your group may have promise, but mine would have a track record of getting things done.

To be honest though, I would rather be on the island with Lane and the girls. Obviously the island would need to be split into 2, and Lane and I would have to agree on the dates for our parties so they don't clash etc. Every now and again we would meet to discuss the re-unification of the island, but then we would get distracted by the girls again....

Ya know Missy, that's what I like about you the most, you never let anything as trivial as the world unification of Paintball get in the way of a good shag ... a true 'cad' by any definition of the word I care to conjour up.....class, pure class :)

And I will of course defer to your greater knowledge of Ged, my assessment of him was in the context of reunification talks and not setting the direction of Paintball, if it were, I would be alongside you in your assessment of him.
If he could shed the responsibilities and ownership of the NPPL, WDP and PP then he would be in my pick but he wears all those hats and will find it almost impossible to be objective.

Pfft. Just put Jerry Braun back in charge of everything and all will be well.

Right?

As for the rest, my opinion means little in this August group, but I'll give it to you anyhow: As diverting as it is to read these debates regarding reunification, it's my opinion that outside investment is going to drive how things go within the sport, at least in the short term. The landscape is getting ready to change in a big way yet again, and this will have direct implications as the new people get settled in and take a hard look at what their investment in teams and tournaments is getting them. I think that they'll find the return lacking, and look elsewhere (or perhaps different methods) in investing their money and sponsorships.

Furthermore, I feel that this outside investment that thus far everyone seems to be willfully ignoring as a factor will also lead to one of the leagues going the way of the dodo bird. No names or organizations just yet, only because I don't know how heavily invested certain companies are invested in either of the two 'main' leagues.

But who knows...I'll stick to reporting the news and leave the rest to my betters.
