Boys, let me interject here briefly at the risk of life and limb ;) and suggest forum threads aren't an either or, or even life and death nor is a desire to feel positive a crime or a veiled anything.

Pete, I think you're reading too much into a simple desire as voiced by Syd to say, hey, there's lots to be done but we needn't flagellate ourselves in the process. I'm not sure I agree with him but I don't think he or any of the other posters so far meant anything else. I think they all intended to be encouraging, not necessarily Pollyannish or myopic about the situation.

At the same time you are plainly correct and are driving at the same thing I tried to say over in the UK teams thread. It is virtually impossible to move forward effectively until you have come to honest terms with the situation as it is. Even so, I don't think it's useful to castigate the many who aren't legitimately "serious" (even if they think they are) rather it's more important to show the few who are what is truly required of "seriousness" in a competitive paintball sense.

Does this sorta of thing run the risk of creating some complacency? Not for the serious. Not in concert with all the other dialogue that is going on and has gone before it here in the forums. For the rest they aren't the ones you want anyway. Or the ones who'll ultimately enter the fold.

Carry on.:)

well there is a conversation killer for you..................

That made me laff - but actually it ain't, or shouldn't be any sort of conversation killer mate because it should just provoke people to try and find the right solution instead of flag waving their way thru the problem.

Magic, 100% agreed mate but what I don't like seeing is subversion of the real issue for no other reason than somebody hasn't understood the core problem.

I'm not at all worried about the state of UK ball, and I don't constantly start threads whining about people not doing enough to make us all like the americans, it aint gonna happen, and if we did get that good by then, they will have brought out a new version of pB and still kick our arses, but, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing for the sake of feeling you have acheived something, even if it is simply winning your local 2 bit tourney division.

I say lets get our **** together and go play some ball instead of talking about it ! :D

Baca, I'm all for positive rhetoric, especially if it's directed toward the indifference we seem to be wallowing in at the moment but this rhetoric has to be coherent and not just 'seem' to hold answers.

It serves no propose decrying the negative points being made on the other thread if those negatives are pointing toward the real problem.
Only by this process of acknowledgment, which as you know must be negative, can we ever hope to move forward into a more positive area of improvement.
If we are gonna start blowing trumpets and banging drums, then FFS make sure we are banging out the right tune instead of just 'sounding' right.
That's my point.

You are all just miffed that Robbo has a point. Its like he is saying "Your Mum is fat!" and we are all defending her saying "No she is just festively plump"

Take our team, for example, in the late 90's early 00's we used to enter every event going, all the Milleniums, even some yank events, the Euro 5 man plus some domestics + training. And like this year we have played the PA Series, and 2 (after Campaign) Milleniums + training. Its just not going to cut the mustard.

We have a lot of teams tell us that we are their Nemesis team, and I hate that even though I should be happy. I hate it because if we approached paintball properly our potential is deadly.

Uk teams seem to run on 50% (being generous) potential, and think that will do. We know it wont, and we have had many meetings trying to come to a workable plan that stops us wasting money and resourses, and focuses on improvement.

with respect Robbo, you seem to have this notion that people are setting out to get at you over your ideas, which i don't think is true. You never struck me as the sensitive sort............

I agree with Sids sentiment in starting this thread and am all for the power of positive thought and all that crap. I also agree with your point of view in that the UK needs to change its attitude towards paintball and its development as a sport.

however, no matter what anyone thinks it is not going to happen overnight and in the meantime we have to make the best of what is available to us.

if anyone wants a wake up call, come to Ireland for a month and try to find somewhere to play your favourite game. things are on the up here too, with Escarmouche opening a new site for punters with no less than 3 airball fields in the very near future.

Sab, one swallow don't make a summer mate !
Our Millennium performances aren't good Sab, and I'm being nice here !

As for misinterpreting any 'veiled attacks', well I hope I'm wrong and maybe it was the tone of the posts that misled me but even as I read them again , they do still read a tad accusatory.
Still, I will accept your redirect and hope that dwelling on the negatives, as I think that other thread most certainly does, is basically a necessary rites of passage that we need to confront and conclude before we move on.
