Highly doubt the 2016 grid will contain 3 GB teams . The 2 CPL teams had 5 man rosters. There seems to be a chronic lack of players with the ability who are prepared to fund CPL team.The generation retiring represent the last who worked /paid their way to the top then got backing to stay and hone their craft.The following players have realised it's just a steadily increasing bill ,for not very much.Ryan and Mc Curley have taken the 7/8th placed CPPS team to the CPL. Moore and Margott kept Nexus near the top. The prospect of a player paying expenses team trying to compete with fully pro power houses of the CPL is not that attractive a prospect.I expect one or maybe both teams to look elsewhere or stepdown .But this being paintball ,predicting anything is a bit like placing your best foot on an entire bunch of bananas.Yep, your maths is right!
CPL will look like this;
16th - Vision - 48
15th - A-Heat - 52
14th - Nexus - 56
13th - Tigers - 72
With Vision and Heat obviously going down, despite a very valiant last ditch effort from Heat.
To highlight how close it was, if Heat had won 1 more point, and Nexus scored 1 less, Heat would be staying and Nexus would be going down.
Bit of a hard post to read, but I think what you're getting at (and correct me if I'm wrong)Highly doubt the 2016 grid will contain 3 GB teams . The 2 CPL teams had 5 man rosters. Not fold but play at a level the rosters and finance warrant.ie CPS or SPL .Im sure a final decision (as every year ) will not have been made .Teams already on reduced funding would need increased funding for overseas players. Firm already have their pros in place and deserve their shot .As long as the Empire staff remain this should be the one certainty .Though you have to ask why would GI fund their own teams opponents ?Bit of a hard post to read, but I think what you're getting at (and correct me if I'm wrong)
"The UK is struggling for CPL standard players, and those teams that have earned those spots (Nexus, Tigers and The Firm) will be looking abroad for talent to bolster their rosters, or fold."
I think your first point is, as of right now, is correct. There aren't the local boys to cut it at the top level of CPL right now. I think Ash has the right idea with Nexus, bringing in good english players and getting them spins. It's just going to take time - and unfortunately the players he's bought in so far don't seem to have the legs to stick it out. There's been some good talent picked up, but has fallen by the wayside for reasons upon reasons. I do not see Ash letting Nexus fold, I think he'll do everything he can to make that team work, maybe next year is the year to bring back an import in for them.
The next is, as you've touched on, the generation that's currently up there does seem to be waning. How much longer are the Keats brothers, Kyle Milton, WeeMan et all going to stick with the top level before calling it a day? And once they call it a day, are they going to stick about in a coaching role? I'll be honest, even if the old guard call it a day tomorrow, can you see Twizz letting Tigers CPL die? It sure as **** won't be before the end of next year. If they get relegated, they'd still put a team into SPL.
And we all know how excited The Firm are to play in CPL, if you have any of them on social media...
Because its significantly cheaper and enables teams to afford to play at the higher levels without having to get a second or third mortgage.Why does the CPS always get mentioned in these threads?
This is a misleading assumption! I've played a couple of seasons of Mills, and a season of CPS. the CPS worked out, at best, a couple of quid cheaper. Because of the venues (Rome, Paris, butt-**** nowhere Belgium) you end up paying more in flights, travel, accomodation, food etc than you would for Mills. Rome was one of the most expensive tournaments I've played when everything was said and done.Because its significantly cheaper and enables teams to afford to play at the higher levels without having to get a second or third mortgage.
I know that finance isn't the only reason UK talent doesn't play at a higher level, but without financial backing it sure as hell is in the top 3.
