I've been thinking about buying a video camera that I can wear whilst playing so that I can record my games etc. I would assume that a couple of people on here have probably used/own/know of some decent equipment so any advice or help is greatly appreciated :) Like I say, it's just an idea that I've been toying with recently and with my student loans burning a hole in my pocket lmao

Edit: I'm looking to spend ~£120 though preferably on the cheaper side.

Bullet cams are the way to go. Their shape is much more suitable for the task than GoPro's. The one mentioned by @alexd seemed to be reasonable. Just had a closer look at it and it looks very similar to Polaroid XS100 so I would expect to have the same internals.

I can recommend Contour Roam 2. I have one and it works pretty well. Contour is a pretty decent camera but mounts for it are a bit overpriced. You can buy Contour for £140 new and cheaper (about £100) if used.

I also had two Polaroid XS100 cameras and they both had problems and were returned. They come with a bar mount as standard so easily mounted to a barrel. If only they worked as advertised I would be happy to keep one. A new Polaroid costs £110. I would advise to avoid or if you decide to take chances - buy from a place that will accept returns without a hassle.

What I find with these 'action cameras' is that they offer very wide field of view so you can't really see who you shoot at when watching the video unless it is a really close action. I am actually thinking of adding a standard camera that would have a bit narrower field of view and hence more detailed picture.

I would not say the contour mounts are over priced*. Compare them to GoPro mounts and the prices are similar
Most of the action cameras around use their own propriety mount system, however the roam 2 has both it's countour rails plus a built in standard camera screw mount.
GoPro make a point of highlighting their range of mounts, whereas with the screw mount contour users can select from virtually every mount option in the world

It is standard for action cameras to have very wide angle lenses, it's by design as they are designed to capture the action and this means you don't have to be directly pointing at the subject. This does mean objects far away are not so obvious. If you want distance filming then putting together a scope-cam would be the way to go

GoPros are bulky, but if mounted in an appropriate place this makes little difference, contours and bullet cams are best suited to head mounts and barrel mounts

Note the optimum location is your head, followed by forward facing gun mount, then rear facing. But the more angles you get the more edit time and footage to work through

Of premium brands I'd recommend contour, sony then GoPro

There are very good alternatives and if you check out TechMoan on youtube then there is bound to be a review on how any you find measure up

* bearing in mind I have been contour sponsored so the cost of mounts has not been an issue to me. For any of the cameras around I would recommend opting for a mount set as these can often give you various mounts for about the price of two

Sorry to thread jack but Is there any advantage from mounting a bullet type camera on the side of a hopper like a Rotor, never liked the idea of barrel mounted cams as the overly loud sound of the gun shooting kind of spoils the footage for me personally.

You could mount to the hopper.
(But instead of shot sounds you may get rattling and feeding sounds)

A problem with anything mounted on the gun is that you only get footage when pointing, you discover quickly how little the gun is pointing at anything and find ground footage.
Mount to your goggles and you have wherever you look

Take a look at the F9-F9b action cam, might suit your budget a little better and the rev.b version shoots at 1080p iirc.

Have a peek on the bay :)

I've just ordered a gopro style cam (sj4000 good techmoan review on YouTube), not just for balling though so it'll get more use. I'm thinking of mounting it mid forehead, possibly switch to the F9b in the future, but I got a good deal on the one I've ordered so will stick with it for now.
