Does everyone upgrade their marker?

After my first walk on session today I heard a few guys talking about, "oh, I swapped out this bolt for that one", "I got rid of stock barrel and got such and such now". Do most people tinker with their markers like this? And why? Surely if you pay £400+ for a marker, it should be good enough straght out the box? I can understand paying money for decent hoppers and the like, but not so much on internal upgrades?

IMO barrel upgrades are needed but everything else is just icing on the cake. If it shoots paint then it's fine to use.

I'd save money and spend it on more events than on upgrades for a marker

Thank you for the reply. Why wouldn't the stock barrel be any good? Isn't it just 14 inches of pipe which is all the same diammeter? How do pipes differ so greatly? Sorry for asking what could seem very dense questions!

If you bought , for example a motor bike, it would be fine to ride straight out of the box but then again some up-grade these by buying a silencer to give more speed or the piston or the rear / front cog for a faster ecceleration or changing the wheels for lighter ones ect ect,
The point i`m making is that No matter what you have that creates power or force, there is always an up-grade, No matter what you spend on it in the first place
is one pipe called the exhaust the same as another .. No, this should answer that question.

You don't need to upgrade a marker out of the box
You can upgrade to improve something, or for preference

A barrelis an easy option. You could just have a basic barrel and switch to a 'better' barrel.
The basic barrel is there to suit a multitude of players across the world and should work in the heat or cold. A player can then optimize for California, Canada or southampton. They also all have different priorities - efficiency, noise, precise match to paint, over boring, under boring.

You could spend £400 on a gun and would expect something better then the most basic barrel, but to expect the manufacturers top of the range barrel would be pushing the price up, and a wast of money if you already have your full freak, hammerhead, etc barrel set. Let alone if you just disagree with the manufacturer on the optimum barrel

With any other part it's the same - tweaking or tuning, lighter efficient bolts, soft nosed bolts, re-programmable boards, or just needing to have something different from the next man

People also have new money burning holes in their pockets every month and want shiney new things
Some money gets frittered away on mortgages, rent, food, petrol, other money gets to be spent on going out, buying shiney stuff, upgrading and even sometimes playing paintball

Thank you tommikka, a very thorough answer. I guess after I've bought a marker I can look at upgrading it then, if not just replacing for a different/better one. As long as the stuff it comes with is all fully functional and paint goes where I want it to, when I want it to, then I can't ask for much more out of the box. :)

The complicated bit is yet to come... Deciding which paint to shoot is a big headache
Probably the stuff they sell at walk ons, like Empire Heat or Sterling Sheild. I don't have the pennies to be too flashy with paint.

If you can't afford decent paint, don't try and upgraded any marker. What's the point having an expensive upgraded marker if you can't afford to shoot it.

Decent paint with a barrel kit will work wonders

Decent paint for me usually costs about £30-£35 per 2000 so not that expensive
