and not only that i witnessed some rather odd calls to say the least....Like a player taking his pack off in the back corner and then doing a mugging run down snake to trade out then to go back to collect his pack ???
I was the player in question and as far as I was told the only things you can't drop are safety equipment. Once dropped its dead until the moment you pick it back up, If its hit and you touch it then your out?

Also for what its worth I didn't go to pick my pack up as I was 1 for 1'd for playing when hit (which a previous martial said play on as was bunker rub), Either way you guys won the game fair and square we got a lucky point against you :)

Will be uploading my R7 footage when I get a chance.

Anyone know the full story behind the Argonauts 2 disqualification and any consequences for the next event? ?

Great weekend and congratulations to all of the GB team for attending !

Cheers, Pete

stoke-on-trent
I felt the reffing was rather poor on field 3.
I personally got pulled out for what i call a phantom shot where the ref thought i'd be hit but instead of checking me he called me out straight away, i didn't want to argue due to the fact i'd of ended up getting 1 for 1'd.
On another point i got called out for a shot on my pack when i was in the snake/diamond, but when i got back into the pits there was nothing there.

I think some of the side line refs were a little bit afraid of getting stuck in.

That's my 2 pence worth

I agree, i personally thought the refs were pretty quick and precise with their calls on being hit but saw a few dubious decision when it came to leaving the gate early

Reffing is always going to be a tough one. No matter the event. Simply because its a judgement call.

However there are times when you just think WTF?

The reffing on the Div1 field had been spot on for the few games we played on there until the div 2 semi finals. I felt a hit when moving from back centre to corner so called fo a check off the closest ref. He did a brief check and called me clean. Then as soon as i fired my marker a ref from the other side of the field ran over and called a 1 for 1. When brought up with the marshals by our coach after the game they just shrugged.

We had a few other strange calls such as this in our semi and 3rd place games.

Now i accept some calls are mistakes but just tightening up on the reffing would be good.

the game always starts on the buzzer regardless so they should have restarted the point and there would have been no way i would have settled for less campbell.......I was only there saturday due to an injury but from what i see the reffing was harsh (it always is) and not only that i witnessed some rather odd calls to say the least....Like a player taking his pack off in the back corner and then doing a mugging run down snake to trade out then to go back to collect his pack ??? Good atmosphere though and good to see so many british teams representing :)
Scott I always thought the game started when the marshalls drop their hands? It is how European teams play and it is why they got G kills against so many English teams who waited for the buzzer.

Has anyone got contact details for Jabba? I'd like to thank him for how well he reffed on the Friday of Div 2, but also ask about a ruling that the rule book (if you can call it that) seems to not cover.

Jabba, reffing the D2 field, I think not!

The ultimate in that field was a prick, he tried to get Ricardo & I to remove stickers from our goggles until I pointed out that Ricardo's goggles were Orange (I4 Tiger Stripe) and that we weren't players so therefore there was little chance of anybody mistaking them for a hit and calling us out, or of us peeling them off to conceal a hit.

The 'Team' refs on that field seemed to be slow to understand what they were supposed to do and slow to react to players with hits, yet despite this both Division 1 teams reffing the event received maximum points. I didn't see any real issues with 'Team' refs on other fields though.

Overall, I struggle to see where else the MS could hold a "London" event with flat(ish) grass fields, the accessibility and local infrastructure necessary without the cost of staging the event sky-rocketing. Basildon/Billericay may not be everybody's dream location, but it does the job and given that the weather was truly awful in other parts of the UK at the time the MS got off extremely lightly with a couple of showers and som gusts of wind.

The biggest issue was the delays on Friday evening meaning that the GB game was played after sunset and without floodlighting.

If it wasn't Jabba then it was certainly his brother from another mother... yes the refs were inconsistent on that field but I am not blaming that for our teams failure... doesn't matter how bad the refs are you have to make your own luck in this sport

I haven't been to a tourney in about ten years so I thought I would pop down to have a look. Great set up.... Until I saw somebody sitting right next to me get shot twice... IN THE GRANDSTAND!!!!!!!!!. Not good.
Also saw a player get one for one when he was shot on pack full of pots, how could he know? Does seem a bit ' I'm in charge so fcuk off' what chance have players got?. I say this as someone who has marshalled all the top events addmittedly a while ago, but there must be better relations with marshalls and teams or the sport ain't going nowhere.

That would have been Dave, mostly found on the "snake" side, I can see where the confusion/misidentification lies though. Sorry, don't have any contact details for him though.
