I thought it was the same as last year but more hot.

I think the best event this year was the first one the venue was great close to paris which was good, some thing different, but we were on a high from winning so it might be rose tinted glasses i am looking through.

Couldn't fault the refs in Div 2, we (DV8) lost to a better team - Firm 2, and then lost our last game through simple mistakes. Still top weekend at a top venue, DV8 will be stronger and better prepared next season.

I think this was the best event this year, without a doubt. Paris has always been teh best in terms of revenue for vendors and number of teams attending. As for foot traffic, of course there will be when more teams enter but general public figures weren't, in my opinion, any greater than any other event.

There were however more familes of teams around. The beauty of this location is the attraction of the Disney Park - Dad can play paintball and mum & kids can hit Disney. Some players also opt to take a day or so either side to soak up the park with their kids.

What was noticeable about this event was that people stuck around and didn't rush to travel home. With so many Brit teams failing to make sunday club this time I was surprised that a lot of them didn't go home earlier than they did.

I think that the trade village was not really that different from other events in the amount of vendors except perhaps that we had Aero Paint and the French Federation. The layout was rather good though. This event was a good one for sure but the teams numbers are lacking on by gone years when we used to see 216 teams enter this event. We saw 168 teams. Yes more than we have seen at other events this year without a doubt but not the full 6 field requirement of old. However it is encouraging.

Pete B - there wasn't any 5 man teams as there wasn't any 5 man division. Were there 3 fields on astro then - I must admit I never got down to the very end field this time.

I did some quick analysis of the "new" teams that entered just the french events....

In Div 3 - Race to 2 there were a total of 26 teams that didn't play Germany and Basildon. Mainly french teams. Out of this 27 there were 6 that only played Longchamps , 16 That only played Paris and 5 that played both.

In Div 2 - Race to 4 there were a total 30 new teams this year. Out of this 30 only 1 team played just Longchamps and 26 played Paris only. 3 teams played both Longchamps & Paris.

Of course I havent included teams in this that played played just 2 events to include paris - eg Germany and Paris - these are generally the teams that choose to play a couple of select events based on financial & holiday commitments. It also doesn't include teams that may have hit the rails after 2 events.

If you look at the total team entries for the year and consoldate the individual entries down into teams that play the entire series you have the following picture...

Div 3 - 74 unique teams consolodate down to just 34 that play the entire series. Div 2 - 70 unique teams consolodate down to 44 that play the entire series.

This just shows how important the lower unlocked divisions are for local teams - much in the way that all brit teams of old wanted to play Mayhem Masters as it was the biggest thing in their country. I think this is similar for Div 3 & Div 2. Plus as it is unlocked it does allow for a lot of scratch teams.

OK yes I was bored at work!!!

Not quite, we put a scratch team in to CC and players from that were then locked. So they have stopped people playing further events.

Well wasn't that my point? - you guys wanted to play CC which was your local big event. Of course my assumption was based more on local teams (not scratch teams) playing. I agree that the locking is an issue and I would be actively encouraging people to play. Even if there was a reasonable Fee for doing so - just enough to deter someone from jumping every event.

Take shockwave for instance. If what occured in Paris occured in Basildon (as it nearly did) then none of the players would have been able to play. However add in a 50 or 100 euro transfer charge those that want to can do. Perhaps you need to limit the number of times a year they can do it to 2??

I also think that the players skill level resetting at the end of a season is an issue - some don't There are two valid arguments that come up...

1. If Div 3 team have enough money to pay for JRab to play then why should they be stopped. It's like Man Utd buying the best players they can.

2. The opposite of this is that these teams with the cash are taking away opportunity from teams that don't have the same funding availability. They feel that they are being robbed everytime. Of course their skill level may be an issue in the first case but ultimately they will blame the event for allowing them to be in the same division as a top pro player.

Some players may see it as an opportunity to play the pros too - we shouldn't forget. I used to like the old days of getting a Pro team in your group and having it only possitively affect your position against the other similar level teams in your group.

Rumours of Entity's death are greatly exaggerated.

Entity has had a tough year, that's for sure. We've had more players walk away mid-season than I can even count any more. Some of them simply have no concept of commitment and will never stick with any team for long, others just couldn't adjust their mindset to a team without Andy Burridge (who we lost to injury right at the start of the season.) But a committed core of players has stuck with it, despite the doubters, and made it to the end of the year. So don't write us off just yet, there's a long off-season ahead, and it's way too early to predict what 2012 will bring.
