Single parent families =/= antisocial behavior. I'm going to completely counteract your view with one of my own: Some people are just ****ers, regardless of the presence of a father figure or not
^^This is spot on^^

Some people are just cnuts.

A lack of respect and self entitlement to do whatever the fcuk you please is the problem in this country.

Whether they are 18 and smashing up the local footlocker, or middle aged women whom believe they have a god given right to do as they please; this country needs a grass roots change and teaching mutual respect (and respect for yourself).

Sometimes ya can't polish turds and thus the press-ganging of these idiots into military service will produce nothing too earth-shattering regard to any socio-behavioural changes.
In my opinion, there are no one-stop answers here, there never has been I'm afraid; what we do have however is a whole slew of negative influences bouncing off of another.

The lack of respect for others.
The lack of discipline.
The lack of education.
The lack of motivation.
The lack of positive role models.
Illegal Immigrants.
The recent outrageous displays of fraud by our MPs.
The unreasonable sense of entitlement with all these bouncing off of what we see in the media .... and as for what we see?
Films that have the good guys being better at violence than the bad guys .... images that give people an unreasonable expectations in life in terms of self-image and what's available in terms of materialism ....mix that lot up and we have a social tinder-box just waiting for that spark.

Politicians can 'talk' all they like and whilst words will have them all 'hear hearing' each other in the house of commons, those words will have no real or lasting connection with the reality of what's going on and have zero chance of changing anything .. all those words will do is fuel copy inches in the papers and maintain the politician's deluded view that they understand the problem but more importantly believe they can effectively cure it.

The clock cannot be turned back; the PC brigade coupled with the human rights knob-head liberals will undoubtedly ensure anything worthwhile in terms of positive action will remain unactioned.
We are well and truly up the creek without a boat ... let alone a paddle

As to who is to blame?
We are for allowing this to happen .... idiot proposals and actions can only gain any form of traction if nothing gets in its way when initiated or the people behind the idiotic proposals are in a position of power ... and as we live in a democracy, the fault, in theory at least, falls at our feet.
That's the theory anyways.. the truth of the matter is somewhat different .....I blame the politicians more than anybody else involved in the mix ... but don't we get what we deserve?
I suppose we do but our politicians have got away with indulging in abject lunacy and utter disregard to commonsense.

As mentioned earlier about the opinion on professionalism of the British army
Since the end of the previous bout of national service our tri-services have been respected throughout the world for being a volunteer professional army
Though it may not appear so if you see the ribbing the TA get in some circles they also draw respect. Some may still be there for the money but with recent cuts on non-operational training many of the 'wasters' have dropped out.
Signing in the dotted line for the TA is effectively signing up for an operational tour.
Though less trained in terms of them serving part time when at home, they are prepared to the same level for deployment.
They still may be considered part timers but they are also volunteers and do a 24 hour a day job in sandy countries

Would the services want conscripts? Historically I would say no, but perhaps this could fill a gap and would enhance the availability of reservists when people have done their time
But is there the space / money to bring in national service ? With the SDSR I doubt it

we need to bin of the European convention of human rights firstly. you will not believe how much that really comes into effect in terms of criminality.

we are all earthlings and, animal or not, we all have the right to life so why do we need the rights to allow pussy footing around. send them into the army, beast them, beat them shag em in the arse. what ever teaches discipline is what is needed.
The only issue with the European Convention on Human Rights is that Article 17 is not applied correctly.

Article 17 no one may use the rights guaranteed by the Convention to seek the abolition or limitation of rights guaranteed in the Convention. This addresses instances where states seek to restrict a human right in the name of another human right, or where individuals rely on a human right to undermine other human rights (for example where an individual issues a death threat)

Anyone asking for it's abolition doesn't understand it or the historic reasons it was brought into existance in the first place.

There may have been some abuses of it but on the whole the principles are sound
