Hey,

I started in the woods then moved to 7man..... bring back the good old times of the M25 league !! They were fecking awesome. Hanging out with the team, playing some games. Not a shout of 'you cheating c@nt' , 'f@ck off ref I shot him first' .... you get the picture..

5man appeared when it was impossible to field the full 7man squad and that was cool too.

XBall seemed the way forward but it is pricey and even though I played a year in the CPL and two SPL with the greatly appreciated support of my sponsors the sheer cost and repetative nature of the games killed it for me.

I have subsequently played some lower level XBall and that was fun but I have ended up finding F5 which I think gives me what I want out of paintball.

Also the woods have drawn me in and I have been playing quite a few scenario days over the past few years.

I think generally that I just like playing ball and I don't mind what format I play. The most fun I had was 2009 where I did not play many tournaments but just when training with the teams up Bricket Wood. All fun honest play !!

Locking teams in and charging them two arms a leg to play with refs having to follow a little Hitler's rule book is not the way forward. Forget about trying to make a format that is TV friendly. The sport is just not TV orientated with tiny balls of paint traveling too fast for the camera..... well that has all been covered before...

I voted 7 Man, and my reasons are as follows.

I played 7 Man once at that special CPPS event and truley loved every minute of it, for me 7 players on the field feels more like a team that 5. Then the game time is longer and more player focused, its more of a 'thinking mans' game. plus Uncapped Semi was great. Its not all roses though, the game doesnt have that excitment factor that X-ball has in some ways, and the chance for teams to pull victory from the jaws of defeat is not as 'jazzy'.

Despite alot of peoples thoughts to coaching, i like it. Mainly for the atmosphere it generates, the idea of the team not just being those players on the field, but the coaches, pit crew and yes even the pot bitch :D I guess the team element is what i like about this sport.

Ive played Formula 5, twice and both times ive come away happy. There are some issues with that format that is either inherent within the gameplay and wont change, or will change once more infrastructure and divisional play is implemented. Because after speaking to a few people, myself included, we got bored shooting people from their back line, running out of their start gate. That happened most games, but again i loved the pits and large team side again, so maybe with future development this could become a bigger format?

probably benn suggested but what about locked xball in cpl and spl and 7 man in lower divs like it was in the 07 season i think it was. 7 man is no where near as good to play, waiting round for games sucks and even the mills had problems with field timings.

Was never issues with the old PA pre Xball with 7 man timings? Used to happily run 4 divs of 10 teams, 2 divs AM and 2 PM without any problems :)

Used to have 10-15 min breaks between games as well so was no waiting around...

true PA weren't bad! i remember when i was playin M5 with NK in Madrid and we had to play games at 9pm then started 9am next day, was not too bad but never had that when we played div 1 xball. I havent played for a while because i quit when i went to uni but surely the problems with locked xball don't apply as much to spl/cpl teams?

We were asked to play in the first couple of formula 5 experiments. As scenario teams (SPS and Warren Wood rangers, now Shoreline Rangers) John wanted to see what we thought.

We loved it and only our scenario game commitments stopped us from carrying on. Formula 5 has the potential to bring back some of the players the tournament scene has lost to the woods.

The other formats are too short for us to come over from scenario. We play 6 hours a day on a sunday (average). 30 seconds on a sup air field does not even compare. It would be great to get Formula 5 and Super 6 to run together somehow.

On a side note, the rules and regs and locked divs and all that jazz is very off putting for the new, or casual, player. I honestly think they're gradually painting themselves into a corner. But I am on the outside looking in and by no means an expert on the tourney scene.

i play 5 man championship at cpps , something i prefer instead of race, its what i use to play back in 2002. Even though i started in the woods , i prefer sup'air. I would gladly follow a 7Man format aslong as it follows the same format as the NPPL.

P.s robbo, can you change my vote to 7man, accidentally voted xball.

Just out of interest what would be to happen if there was x-ball with no locked leagues? What would be the implications of unlocked leagues be?

TBH like someone said earlier, I'll happily play whatever format I can - as long as I am playing ball. Just would prefer it to not be the woods.
