basically am considering getting one

and just wanted to know some figures

on o2 the tafiffs are

Which O2 data plan is right for you? £2 / Daily £ 10 over 30 days, recurring £15 over 30 days, recurring
Each package gives you 200MB + Unlimited Wi-Fi
(Promotion 500MB until 30/09/2010)

Available for 24 hours 1GB + unlimited
Wi-Fi access
Available for 30 days, recurring 2GB + Unlimited Wi-Fi
(Promotion 3GB until 30/09/2010)

Available for 30 days, recurring
What you can do with each package?
Browsing the web * 2,000 pages 10,000 pages 20,000 pages
Music Downloads * 40 songs (about 4 albums) 200 songs (about 20 albums) 400 songs (about 40 albums)
Video Downloads * 25 minutes 2 hours 4 hours

am just wondering if basic web browsing chat and small stuff like would end up costing more than the £15 a month tariff

as at the bottom of o2 in small print it says

A typical web page is about 100KB of data, a typical song is about 5MB, and a typical video is about 250MB over 30 mins

i just basically dont want to pay more than my tariff

thanks

You realy should just get a notebook then you wont need to pay tariffs to use it. HP do one where the screen twists round onto the keyboard so you can use it like a ipad.

Hi Stoney,
Notebooks would be different as if you wanted to use 3G you would need to buy a USB '3G' stick for your notebook and you can access the Internet this way. The plans vary for such sticks and for example I have a '3' USB Internet stick which gives me 5gb of downloads/uploads for £15 per month.

The issue you will find with any '3G' is that it may connect in all areas when you are travelling but if you stay close to metropolitan areas you will be ok. The 02 package offers you 200mb which would be fine for surfing/emails just do not download much else. it also offers unlimited wi-fi which will be handy if you are in shops/hotel which offer free wi-fi. Be careful about how they measure the '30' days as well and look at the small print to see what the additional charges are if you use more than your tariff. If you go overseas do not use '3G' as it will cost you a bomb due to International calling rates.

I would just be careful to download onto your iPad as much as you can on your home internet and then go out and use the iPad for your web surfing.
Hope that helps?

but i would still need to get a internet tariff
Useing WiFi no, with 3G it varies on who you go with. With a notebook your choice of most if not all the moble companies than just one. You should also bear in mind that a notebook in most cases has a higher spec than the Ipad.
