Just for your info, I've had a mate banned from Live who had a modded xbox. I only say as that's what you say you want it for. Still great for offline play, which is most games still these days.
just to add to the banning on live of modded xboxs, its very "rare" that you get banned from Live, its not the modded xbox that gets detected its a poorly copied game that is detected and then your live account banned NOT the xbox.

If its my last x-box(which i think it is!), this was used online, then the account of the user was banned, then the account was used on a normal xbox and was fine. I did not use this online as I did not have internet access. This xbox will play "backup" disks and had no problems at all.
