Sure, but with someone whose information is reputed to be solid, who seems to have a strong bias if not a definite agenda, who all the mods seem to know, but all wink and say "I won't tell," you gotta wonder about anything intheno claims, no matter how funny or troubling or thought provoking.

Gyro, I think in this case, you may well have to try and detach the man from the info, he may well have an agenda but I doubt he would just make things up to muddy the waters.
He may also be party to some infomration that runs contra to the interests of certain others and if he lets everybody know, his motives in this case maybe academic because it is the integrity of the info that is important and not why he did it.

BTW there is a question to be asked:

Is ANYONE finally found out how to put XBALL/Paintball on TV that its:

a, Enoyable
b, Understandable for the masses
c, Sellable to sponsors

I guess not and that might be the reason DC Productions is sitting on the whole thing. Everybody tends to say TV this TV that but the crucial question still not answered! HOW?

aaand now something different:

Does Robbo or anyone who is closer to the fire know anything about the possibility of Divisional Xball (like PSP) for us Europeans next year (or ever)

Fair enough, Robbo, in a grim way I believe this little tidbit anyway. Paintball being misunderstood and misinterpreted is the curse we live under, past, present, and probably future. A show where the Smart Parts stable represents us in a Disney style progression toward WC 2005 would serve as about as accurate a view of us as the Real World reflects American life, but I am quite credulous that this is how tournament paintball will first reach the masses. I guess it could be worse.

I was expressing doubt not because I thought intheno would muddy the waters by making stuff up, but I though he might make stuff out of sarcastic humour. Thing is, it sounds all too true, the more I visualize.

At the moment, the whole XBall thing as far as us Euros goes, is on a knife-edge.
There are some people within the EXL who are just sticking their fingers in their earholes and humming, hoping it all goes away because their options are limited if it all goes go down.
They might as well get those same fingers and stick them up their ass for all the use it's gonna do because if the PSP does go pop, the EXL will follow, make no mistake about that.

The only salvation for us in that scenario is to have cut a deal with some Euro TV company or to have negotiated some deal with an outside sponsor that injects a siginificant amount of cash into the series.
As far as I know, no such deal with either a TV company or outside sponsor is imminent.
At present the promotion of these EXL events is heavily subsidised by Richmond, if that discontinued, the promoters just could not afford run EXL events.

The problem with Euro ball, is that at present, we are inextricably linked to the US; when they sneeze, we catch a cold.
From the symptoms some of us have been witness to, we better go find a bed somewhere.
Of course, we may all be wrong, in which case, TV is soon coming Stateside, the EXL is gonna sign up a deal that will mean hundreds of thousands of dollars comes flooding in saving the EXL and all of a sudden a pig flies past my head !!!!!

For the teams who have the resources, the correct stategy should be to maximise options, for some of those who cannot, accusing myself and Laurent of scaremongering or self-interest ain't gonna help one bit.

I think this is the quote they're referring to (from the Aftershock leaves NXL thread)

"I don't think the Gardners will buy any more franchises. They only need 2.
Rumor is that the DCP deal has been formatted to follow just 2 teams as they train, prepare and play the NXL. These 2 teams are to be the 2 teams owned by Smart Parts...
Good luck to the rest of those guys in the NXL!!"

In a lot of ways this makes sense. Reality shows are very popular in the US TV market right now. There should be enough drama and strangeness to attract an audience. TV doesn't want realistic reality shows, they want dramatic reality shows. That's why Real World is going into it's 13th (14th?) season.

As far as the concept goes, it sounds an aweful lot like Push to me - follow a couple of teams through the season, the dramas, the humor, some practices and tournaments, up to the big final championship.

Interestingly enough, the program concept could be applied to any paintball format - Xball, NPPL, PSP 10 man, Millenium.

It's a good concept and I can see how it could work. The only question is will anyone except ballers watch?
